Damn, Colt took an L in this thread...
Some things are better left unsaid, but if you're gonna say some ridiculous, out-of-left-field ish, you better have a lot of proof and examples to back up your point, cause otherwise you just sound like a raving lunatic rather than someone who put a lot of methodical thought and research into his POV.
Plus, the title of the thread is rappers you don't understand why people like. Are you seriously saying you can't understand why people like Lupe, Mobb Deep, Dr. Dre, etc? Nah son

That isn't saying much though, seeing as Nas has dropped twice as many albums than Kanye... When Kanye drops as many as Nas, I can ensure you that Nas will have a much stronger collection...

Illmatic wins
Second albums: It Was Written vs. Late Registration           Â
Sue me, but I like Late Registration a tad bit better
Third Albums: I am... vs. Graduation        Â
I Am... wins
Fourth Albums: Nastradamnus vs. 808's and Heartbreak    Â
Both made lame albums the fourth time around but 808's was better
I give it a tie thus far as far as chronology goes but it's going to be hard for Kanye to match Nas on albums like Stillmatic, Street's Disciple, and Hip Hop Is Dead...
I think they're all insanely overrated. I don't dislike any of them.Damn, Colt took an L in this thread...

How are you gonna say Lupe is corny than turn around and have a Charles Hamilton avatar and sig? :|-PuLseWORD! CH most corny award. Dude is a square, and no one in NY likes him.
Lupe's average imo...Mobb is okay, but it's not my cup of tea....Dre's dope, but not as dope as people say.But do you like them? Even a little?
Or better yet, can you see why other people like them?
KamMoye
I can see why people like them....just not so much Lupe. Calling him anything more than average/above average is puzzling to me.

Would you not agree that Dr. Dre is an amazing producer? His beats are instantly recognizable and he was instrumental in creating the west coast sound.[QUOTE="Colt45fool"][QUOTE="KamMoye"]Lupe's average imo...Mobb is okay, but it's not my cup of tea....Dre's dope, but not as dope as people say.But do you like them? Would you not agree that Dr. Dre is an amazing producer? His beats are instantly recognizable and he was instrumental in creating the west coast sound.I fully agree with you on Dre. Like, vehemently. I went back and listened to The Chronic after people kept hyping up the production. It's good, but I just don't feel it like that. Obviously dope, but you know what I mean? Not transcendent dope.
Lupe, nah, don't really agree. For one, it's unequivocal that dude puts a lot of time in his rhymes, so if you don't put a lot of time in listening to him, you can't really comment on him. I'm not going to lie -- I never really got into him like that. I like him, but I never loved him. But I am willing to admit that there is still a large part of the artist of Lupe Fiasco that I have yet to explore, and for that, I give him and his fans credit, because his rhymes are definitely witty and they definitely have a lot of different meanings that I've just been too lazy to explore as of now. But even on a surface level he's decidedly above-average.
Mobb Deep? Man, I hated Mobb for a while. Orlando probably remembers when I used to hate on them. But now? The Infamous is dope. And Hell on Earth is good. That's all I really feel, though. They're just good. Nothing spectacular; can easily get lost in the shuffle.Â
Overrated? Sure. "Can't junderstand why people like"? Absolutely not.
I'm a Dr. Dre fan minority, I think that 2001 is a better album. More heartfelt, less 'Eazy-E eat my anus' stuff.I fully agree with you on Dre. Like, vehemently. I still cop Lupe albums...there's always something good on them, and Lupe knows how to put out a listenable record [I'd much rather listen to Lupe than someone corny like Blu] I just don't know why everyone thinks he's SO GOOD...with the way he's hyped up youd think he was a top 10 emcee, with 2 classics.
[QUOTE="KamMoye"]Maybe I need to listen to the Mobb Deep albums more, but I really wasn't feeling it...kind of bored me honestly. Hes a top 10 lyricist.. Emphasis on "LYRICIST".. Theres many songs that prove this..damelokidd124According to who? a few ppl on this board. There is no one in NY who likes him, no one in the streets who respect him.
Nas, Jay, Jada, Royca, Wayne, Em, Papoose, Fabolous, Common, Mos Def, Talib
Thats 11 quickest ppl I could think of. All better lyricist then him.

We talking about Lupe or CH? Im talking about CH. Lupe is better then CH to.I wasnt talking about CH but since we speakin on CH, hes a good lyricist. The only person on ya list who I think hes better than is Papoose. You cant say NY doesnt love him because I know some CH stans who get ECSTATIC when I speak on him.. "Whats he like? Did he really play piano in the auditorium? How many people in the Brooklyn Girls video do you know?".. It gets crazy.. Hes a weirdo, no doubt but he can rap tho..The Infamous and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx are two albums that I can remember not really liking on the first listen... and then down the line falling in love with. But this was waaaaay back in the day when I was just getting into hardcore rap albums like that, and the whole styIe was pretty new to me. For someone like Colt who is already a fan of OB4CL, I do think it's kind of odd how you can't get into the Infamous. I dunno what you guys mean by its boring because the storytelling on the Infamous is amazing...

Papoose punchlines are so weak.. "I put a dot on ya ass like W W W.".. Yo Rob, whats some of the other ones?
 Papoose sucks. I used to like him... but damn, over time you realize how crappy his lyrics/punchlines are and his premature, soft ass voice just gets wack. The only track I actually like him from now is this , which I will admit is still one of my favorite songs of the 2005-2006 period. Besides that though, his music is just boring and wack as hell to me now.
Even THAT can showcase how wack his bars are... "Practice makes perfect, so when working I don't relax. I practice, so i'm perfect and that's a fact".. "you lost like a person without a mac". for real? Lyrical top ten? Yeah right ...Â

Best Papoose lyrics:
I GOT STATEN ISLAND ON MY PINKY QUEENS ON MY THUMB DUDE
THE BRONX ON MY MIDDLE FINGER SCREAMIN **** YOU
ROCK ICE IN MANHATTAN SO THERE'S THE RING FINGER
YOU KNOW I HAD TO KEEP BROOKLYN ON THE TRIGGER FINGER
Five boroughs of death, you don't understand
I got New York City in the palm of my hand
Now I could make a tight fist and let it crumble ridiculous
Or I could smack the world with a New York Lyricist
Easily his best bars...when I first heard that I had to rewind it like 5 times
