I think the major issue with this board is that everyone is too settled and feel they've already covered everything. Topics about past Hip-Hop and the usual Hip-Hop debates (lyicism/swag, underground/mainstream) just seem played out to the core of members that have been here for a while. If I made a topic about De La Soul perhaps that would just be repetitive because it seems that the 'De La' debate has already been had informally a number of times. (The exception of course is the classic album threads which are a highlight for me but tend to be just 'yes', 'no' things rather than full scale debate.)
So really the only major topic of conversation is contemporary Hip-Hop, but if someone makes a topic about a new artist/album perhaps only a handful of members will have actually heard the artist/album and even then not all of them will comment. Perhaps that's why Wayne/Kanye have been major topics recently because whether we like it or not, most of us have a strong opinion on them.
I guess this kind of reflects the whole relationship between the internet and music. Instead of a core staple of Hip-Hop there's just this massive proliferation and we can't listen to and discuss it all properly. I think the answer to this problem is just more effort on our part to check out stuff and be willing to discuss it more fully. But of course that might take up time/energy some of us can't afford.
But still its better than being a lurking snitch who only makes the odd repetitive post to moan and nothing else.
btw I turned 20 last week.

I agree with this - I really have no desire to talk about ATCQ here ever again. If I ever talk about Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, or whatever, it's just usually to update the new guys to forum what my stance is; my opinion on Nas hasn't changed for the past ten years, but I suppose not everyone has been posting at GS for ten years. I really have nothing to say about these guys that I haven't already said, and nobody else here probably has anything to say about the records that I haven't already seen. And I don't bother to go too in-depth about the new **** I'm on because I know barely anyone here will check it out, and even fewer will give it a fair chance. I just mainly come here because there are a couple other people here that actually check out dope new ****, and just because I know everyone here so well.
I really don't notice the immaturity you guys are talking about ... the only thing I can think of over the past couple years is those stupid Alijosa/Mkvaughn arguments; Mkvaughn is cool as ****, but man those arguments were dumb as ****. I really think most of you guys getting nostalgic are just going through what Bradley just described.
