And I picked D cause he's what I'm feeling the most right now, I change my stuff up every two months or so signature wise so it just goes with what I'm feeling most at the moment. Signature is supposed to reflect what I am liking at the moment so I maintain it like that.

Nah for a sig the picture is plenty big, have to make it smaller to fit the signature size I use anyway

On the backgrounds its a little bit of both, sometimes I just use a city or something as a background and then add stuff on top of that, sometimes I piece the background together with the brush tool. Mostly its made from sampling stuff from other pics though.

the pen tool can be super useful if you know how to use it, but takes a while to get good with it. just practice with it for a while and look up some pen tool tutorials.
