what, non-sensical bable? Try breaking the song down...the ish is dumb as hell...makes very little sense when you actually sit down and look at the lyrics...you know what concept he's trying to get at, but he fails horribly.

but it doesnt bother me, i still love the song. Take "Who Killed It" great concept, and Nas pulls it off well, but i cant listen to it because of the non-existent flow and horrible voice, Lupe however rides the beat well and its easy to listen to, so even if the rhyme scheme is a bit "elementary" (better than anything i could do) i can listen to it all day.

the beat was lame, but my problem was that the song was nonsensical babel...talk about failing to close out a concept...the songs contradicts itself. Lupe's song fit perfectly into the Jay-Z lyric "Just cause you don't understand him don't mean that he bright, it means yall don't understand the bullish that he writes"

its an abstract concept about someone having to take care of something, while being probed by others, where the box represents either his hopes or problems, and i guess i just dont look into the song as much as you did, cause i loved it ever since the first time i heard it.

what it is about is irrelevent...you can substitute anything for the box and the doctors...the song still wont make sense, the lyrics are flawed, they make little sense...tell me why would someone who hates something try to unlock it from it's prison and then lock himself to that thing simply so he can try to figure out how to unlock the thing in which he hates.

lol it still doesn't make sense...if the box is hate or violence, the guy is still trying to unlock and free something he loathes...who does that? Who tries to set free that he doesn't like? Is this dude some type of a maschist? and it can't be violence or hate anyway because A) the guy grows to love the box, and B) he tries to protect the box because it is the last of the boxes...this guy must be some type of asshat to try and protect the last bit of hate or violence left in the world...lol and that still doesn't explain who the doctors are.

Anyone who tries to make a song mean something when it quite blatantly is crap, is just pathetic.

When it is intended to mean something, its obvious (I used to love her being my prime example)

unless the song is intentionally ambiguous and you are supposed to take your own meaning from it, my theory might not be definitive but its what i take from it, and until Lupe says otherwise i will follow it.

Pandora's box? All the misfortunes of society? lol nice try...Again it doesn't matter what you make the box mean, the lyrics are flawed in their construction. Dude is watching a box, that is itself, locked in a box. He watches this box so he can figure out how to stop the box, beceause he hates it, yet even though he hates it...he absorbs and adopts everything. He wants to unlock the locks that trap the box within the other box. However, dude hates the box, so why would he want to unlock it and why would he want to watch how to figure out how to unlock somthing he hates. Then dude, who hates this box, locks himslef to the box that holds the box that he hates, so that he can figure out how to unlock the box that contains the box that he hates. Not only that, dude swallow's the combination for no appearent reason and is stuck to something that he hates. Homeboy is starting to sound like Golum...lol no matter what the box is...Lupe wrote some nonsense with that song.

And the doctors being society telling you what to do doesn't fit, cause the doctors don't actually tell him anything, they actually just watch and take notes.

society does watch and take notes, yet indirectly tell us what to do, the song isnt meant to be taken literally of course which is why i think you have difficulty understanding the concept. The box can hold anything, so therefore he can love and hate it since no one knows whats in the box, the whole song is basically figurative speech. If i say "i'm the ish like manure" (courtest of paul wall) does that mean i smell like a butthole or am dark brown? No, it is meant to get a point across. You are overanalyzing it.

the song isn't intentially ambiguous...it's just horribly song writing  it's very clear what concept lupe was getting at...it's someone growing to love that in which he hates, the box is obviously supposed to be pop culture in some sense and the doctors are kinda like ad agencies...people who do focus studies on products to see their effect on people. They can be otherthings, but this fits best. The problem is that Lupe starts with someone hating the box, yet locking himself to it and swallowing the combination all in an attempt to free the box from it's prison...that is just stupid...

[QUOTE="Apocalypse33"][QUOTE="fat_rob"][QUOTE="Apocalypse33"][QUOTE="fat_rob"]what it is about is irrelevent...you can substitute anything for the box and the doctors...the song still wont make sense, the lyrics are flawed, they make little sense...tell me why would someone who hates something try to unlock it from it's prison and then lock himself to that thing simply so he can try to figure out how to unlock the thing in which he hates. Apocalypse33

its like an unending circle, it could represent violence, hate, etc....

lol it still doesn't make sense...if the box is hate or violence, the guy is still trying to unlock and free something he loathes...who does that? Who tries to set free that he doesn't like? Is this dude some type of a maschist? and it can't be violence or hate anyway because A) the guy grows to love the box, and B) he tries to protect the box because it is the last of the boxes...this guy must be some type of asshat to try and protect the last bit of hate or violence left in the world...lol and that still doesn't explain who the doctors are.

Pandora's box anyone??? and the doctors are society constantly telling us what to do.

"I'm the ish like manure" is paul wall's horrible attempt at word play...this is not word play, there is no play on words...there are no similies in the verse, the only metaphor in the verse is attributed to the doctors... being vauge like this is not good lyricism, it's called being wack  man you suck at rap....

Okay, im gonna take a swing at rap here and say, he didnt intend any ambiguity at all...he wrote what sounded good to a beat - this lyrical greatness and ambiguity is purely coincidence.

Anyone who tries to make a song mean something when it quite blatantly is crap, is just pathetic.

When it is intended to mean something, its obvious (I used to love her being my prime example)

fat_rob

unless the song is intentionally ambiguous and you are supposed to take your own meaning from it, my theory might not be definitive but its what i take from it, and until Lupe says otherwise i will follow it.

the song isn't intentially ambiguous...it's just horribly song writing  it's very clear what concept lupe was getting at...it's someone growing to love that in which he hates, the box is obviously supposed to be pop culture in some sense and the doctors are kinda like ad agencies...people who do focus studies on products to see their effect on people. They can be otherthings, but this fits best. The problem is that Lupe starts with someone hating the box, yet locking himself to it and swallowing the combination all in an attempt to free the box from it's prison...that is just stupid...

i always thought it was about conforming to society. kinda like how 9th was saying that deep down people don't really like the music out now a days but they listen to it anyways to fit in,

anyways, its an alright song and yea, his lyrics are kinda flawed but why are yall even arguing about one of his average songs? what about american terrorist, thats a dope song, day dreamin?

american teorrist is dope, as is day dreaming (though it has some of the same problems as the instrumental, they are no where near as bad or appearent). If lupe made all his songs like those I'd have not made this thread though :P
