i always thought it was about conforming to society. kinda like how 9th was saying that deep down people don't really like the music out now a days but they listen to it anyways to fit in,

anyways, its an alright song and yea, his lyrics are kinda flawed but why are yall even arguing about one of his average songs? what about american terrorist, thats a dope song, day dreamin?

american teorrist is dope, as is day dreaming (though it has some of the same problems as the instrumental, they are no where near as bad or appearent). If lupe made all his songs like those I'd have not made this thread though :P

And the guy isn't trying to open something he loathes, he doesn't loathe the box, the story is told in third person. The person in the story loves the box, and listens to the box, and does what the box asks....the person telling the story (Lupe I suppose) is telling us about the box and things that it does....whether it's good or bad, is the impression the listener is going to have to take from it...the impression most associated with the box, is that it's probably bad, because it's taking over the person's life.

I actually like The Instrumental:? By no means is it one of my favorite Lupe songs but it's OK to me.

And Lupe IS overrated, I love him, F&L was the best album 0f 06 for me, but alot of people praise him a bit too much.

and again it doesn't matter what the box is, that is not the problem the problem is the verse is structerly flawed...no matter what the box is, the man is trying to open something he dislikes...the first verse is about someone who hates the box, but gets sucked into it and the second verse is about the same person loving the box...
