Man, Hip Hop is dead and it will be VERY hard for a new artist to break into the mainstream...last time I remember somebody broke into the mainstream was T.I and Lil Wayne, and that was like 4 years ago.

Now days everybody listens to Techno, Electronic or House...you can see it by the numerous mohawks people be sporting now days.

Wouls you consider Plies as another rapper that is breaking in the mainstream??? :? I think is fair :/

Scuervo

i didn't know a genre of music could die. And yes plies is the most recent to break into the mainstream but don't forget Rick ross adn a few others who have also just recently broke into the mainstream.

Only person in that list I can picture blowing up is Curren$y,and thats only because of his guest appearance on Lil Waynes mixtape. Everyone though Joell Ortiz,Rhymefest, and other new artists were going to be something and I haven't seen anything yet:? Nowadays in rap its not about the talent anymore, its about who you know if you want to sell (hence everyone putting Wayne on a track to go from gold to platinum lmao). Sad,but teh truf.Black-Demon

I don't remember anyone thinking Joell Ortiz or Rhymefest would blow up big in the mainstream? And if they did, I'd love to see their logic, since both rappers are boring and have little to no commercial appeal.

On the other hand, though, I don't really see what would stop either Wale or Curren$y from blowing up ... they both already have established underground followings, the backing of a major label, and access to today's biggest producers (Interscope (or Atlantic, or whatever the hell he's signed to) said Wale's debut is supposed to have production from Just Blaze, The Neptunes, DJ Toomp, etc.).

Plus, I think you guys are a little misguided here, thinking that the rapper really means anything at all ... the only difference between mainstream fame and internet fame is label promotion. The only reason Z-Ro isn't selling TI numbers is because the average Top 40 radio listener doesn't know who the hell he is, let alone that he has a record in stores. There's no saying that Interscope couldn't put some major promotion into the Wale album. Unless you're working for one of the major labels, it's kinda ignorant to say you know who's gonna get the push and who isn't ... (outside of obvious cases; Big Kuntry might be signed to Atlantic through Grand Hustle, but nobody thought he'd be pushing a million this year).

I was just using Z-Ro as a random example ... there are any number of other rappers in the same position as him. But I don't know why Z-Ro couldn't be a mainstream success ... Twista has proved speed-rapping can be a commercially successful gimmick, and Z-Ro can sing hooks ... I dunno, maybe he sings too good; maybe all Z-Ro needs to do to become commercially viable is take a page out of fellow Texan Chamillionaire's book and sing his hooks like ****. Plus, Z-Ro can easily hold his own, rap-wise, with TI ... Z-Ro's got classics for days ... I'm not really sure what you're getting at implying that there's a huge margin of difference between these two guys.

Twista hasn't been relevant since "Overnight Celebrity" man...the game has switched up. T.I. from Trap Muzik and Z-Ro had some stuff in common, but now T.I. is doing songs like "Whatever You Like" and that joint with Timberlake. I can't hear Z-Ro doing those types of songs with that type of production. The best Z-Ro can hope for is becoming a new Scarface imo, that's his lane. The mainstream only has so many spots that can be filled; people only check for X amount of artist and once they have the number of artist they like they stop checking for new music. ATM, too many old heads are staying in the game taking up air time and new artist get drowned out cause of the old heads that won't move aside. It's starting to shift a bit, but it's still a major problem.

I also think the sound most of these underground cats have is not accessible enough...only Wale stands a chance and I think his is slim cause dude is way too easy to make fun of (rocks skinny jeans, and he has no charisma, dude sounds like he chugged 3 bottles of Robitussin before stepping in the booth). But who knows, Lupe finally went gold, but it took him a HUGE hit to even come close to that...I just highly doubt any of the current underground crop will step up to be the next Jay-Z, Nas, etc, because I honestly think we have already have the next big rappers in Wayne and Kanye, with Luda, Game, T.I., and Jeezy playing the background and Lupe being that "If skill sold truth be told" rapper.

I think Wale has the best chance of blowing up. I love Blu but I don't see him becoming bigger than a Kweli, Jay Electronica even less so. B.o.B, Kid Cudi, and Curren$y would be after Wale as the best shot at blowing. B.o.B has the connection to T.I. and has already had a successful single with Haterz and he has much better material than that, Kid Cudi has the connection to Kanye West and has popular song in Day N Nite, and people already know Curren$y from the Wayne mixtapes and Where Da Cash At. And then an outside shot with Asher Roth just because he has that Eminem factor...

Artistic Integrity at S.O.B.'s

Back in the GoGo at SOB's

Wale also has that x-factor of bringing something fresh to the table with his connection to gogo and incorporating a lot of that sound into his music, and he performs live with a gogo band backing him....

that Highline Ballroom show Wale did the other day with Hov watching was a big for him too...

lol at Hov chillin there with Leo too

Rob, you're hating too much. Wale is going to blow up. It doesn't matter if you think he sucks. He has nice swag and a (kinda) new style, a good collection of mixtapes piling up, and is dropping songs with some pretty hot rappers. The dude got Weezy on his remix to one of his mixtape songs, and it even went to itunes and made it in the top 5 most sold thing or whatever. If the dude isn't rocking TRL/BET in the next 3 years, he either got shot, put in jail, or retired. And I don't think any of that will occur in that time frame.

You do realize TRL got cancelled right? Wale wont make it onto 106 unless dude has a "Superstar" level smash. Getting Wayne on a song is not a hard thing...Wale got Wayne on a song during Wayne's period of "I'm gonna jump on everything under the sun"...Wale is in the same position as Saigon and Papoose...in fact, he's in a worse position than Papoose was...Papoose had the BEST verse on the Touch It remix and dude still can't get an album out...Wale is gonna need an ass load of help to even get up to that status. Yeah, he's got a different style, but it's not different enough to make a splash. And honestly as far as swag goes...I'll just quote budden..."ask me swag, I'ma change the topic to lyrics and then brag, plus look at you like a...."

Wtf, why?

Yeah it will probably take quite a bit, but I really think he'll blow up. Saigon is different, dude is lazy. He isn't putting out stuff as much as Wale is. Saigon could still blow though. Papoose... idk. I think he gave up...

Charles Hamilton

Coming for new york charles hamilton is a character. He thinks he is sonic, think she is the best rapper alive even though he only released mixtapes. Dude has recently been on the blogs for is "beef" with soulja boi but overlook all that and you find a rapper who is overall dope as hell. With his hamiltonzation process he has released about 8 mixtpaes all with orginal songs and sometimes very eccentric beats.

Notable Songs:

November 10

Loser

Music

Brooklyn Girls(i'll link later)

Notable REleases:

The pink lavalamp

its...

the former is his best in my opinion

Word... I was pleasantly surprised by that ish. He isn't wow, but he is a lot better than I expected. I don't think his production is amazing either, but it is fairly original I guess, and has a nice sound to it.

Ruste Juxx

Dude has been on Duckdown for over a decade now, but he is just now going to put an album out. He just recently put out a mixtape, which I think you can download on his myspace, that you can check out to see where he is at atm.

Imo, dude is mad nice. I'm really looking forward to his album. He sounds like early SNW, real grimy flow and lyrics.

Here are some tracks...

Rock On

Cop that Ruste Juxx album OTB... don't sleep.

I just got through my first listen, ish is nice.  The production includes Black Milk (doooooope), Dan the Man, and some other hot producers. The beats are slick as hell and dude simply kills all of them. After P and Rock, dude is my favorite off of DuckDown atm. The subject matter is also fairly varied. He has a track dedicated to weed (chill as hell), some for the ladies, then just street ish. Get on this yall...

the name of the ruste juxx album is indestructable and its not as good as elpooz is making it out to be (but probaby the best album elpooz has heard in a while, we know his taste is a bit questionable). it's worth a listen for sure but dont expect anything great, and while there are 2 black milk beats, the rest of the producers are no namers.

I liked it all. Get Up, Machine Gun Skunk, Let Me In, Pimpin Ya Wife,  and Duck Down! are the only stand out ones though. Dude is nice, he just needs to switch up the topics. He is much better when he isn't rapping about straight street ish and guns and all that. Still a good listen for me. I probably like The Prelude more, but oh well.

Okay, I'll be honest, out of those guys you mentioned above, I've never listened to this guy. But, with a name like that, I probably never will; it's gotta be some Cool Kids hipster **** or something. Either way, that's one of the worst rap names I've ever seen.
