Personally, it would be Nicki Minaj.  I seriously would rather listen to Soulja Boy recite Shakespeare than her rap on a song.  I can't take her seriously with her doing every song in 10 different tones of voice combined with the fact that she just isn't that talented.  She's basically the female Lil Wayne without actually having decent songs.  As soon as I hear her voice on a track, I tend to skip it. (Monster being the exception).  What about you guys?

-Skinny Jeans
-The word "Swag"
-Fans who call songs that involve more than a catchy chorus and beat super lyrical
-People who call Wayne the greatest rapper alive when they only have 14 artists on their ipod
-The fact that kids from the age of 15 are getting tattoos because Wayne has them

If you guys think the Wiz Khalifa nut riding is bad where you're at try living in Pittsburgh. I've been hearing about him for years now. Though it doesn't bother me cus I actually like a lot of his music.

My list basically mirrors BD's. I ****ing hate the word swag, especially when I hear it from 17 year old white females.

The lack of intersection between the four sides (west coast, east coast, midwest, south) outside of the mainstream acts (ie Lil Wayne & Kanye & Jay Z dont count).  I'd like to see more collaboration between the west and the south, similar to how the Bay and the Midwest (ie KC) have been working together for years now.  Ironically the South helped put the Bay on (sup Seagram) and the Bay's one of the south's biggest supporters (sup OutKast) but there isn't much musical collaboration... this goes doubly for the other regions.  When's the last time you heard a East Coast-South collaboration that wasn't in the backpacker scene?  Oh yeah... never.  Even the Bay and the East Coast collab more than the South and NY do... Freeway and Cormega have been ****in with us for years now.

lol @ the shouts... ^^iHeartCali

lol its true though... I was at Rock The Bells back in 09 and Big Boi said that the Bay made up 6 Million of OutKast's sales... that aint chump change.  We got love for the South... we returned the favor and put some of the South on too (see No Limit Records and Master P).   I don't get why the coasts don't collaborate together more.  It contributes to the stereotypes about rappers being divisive and is a lot of the reason why I don't **** with too many NY rappers any more... Jadakiss and rappers like him can rap but are ignorant as **** and give their fans another reason to ignore 75% of the rap music produced in this country.

The only truly multi-coastal well-known rapper at this point is Curren$y.  Just in the bay he's been on J Stalin and Yukmouth's albums... he ****s with Nipsey and has been on plenty of east coast records, namely Wiz Khalifa's.  He also ****s with his own scene.  There's a reason why he gets nothin but love from most of the country.. being able to rhyme is only half of it.

The main reason I said mainstream acts don't count is because once you get to that level of success it don't matter where you're from or what you're spitting... its all about the $$$$$ and label politics.  Jay Z got on Juvenile's **** too (the "Ha" Remix).  Does that mean he's ****ing with the Nolia?  He probably didn't even know where Juvenile was from.

Bandwagon fans, mainstream or underground. Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa bandwagoners are just as annoying as MF Doom or J Dilla bandwagoners.

Especially those people who just started listening to J Dilla, Del and Doom and then all of a sudden think they are some underground hip-hop head... act all high and mighty about it... and use the fact that they listen to artists like Doom to belittle other people's taste.

You realize the thread title is "trends/things you hate in hip hop right now" right?  The Bay Area is definitely not a trend right now, or at least no more of a trend than the midwest is.  As for being a "thing you hate in hip hop right now", hi hater.

I was just thinking, I wonder how many more "life's a *****" flips we'll see.
I swear every new one that Wayne or Yeezy come with becomes the go-to lyric for facebook statuses.

Not saying I hate it though, but it's cliche as hell.

Songs about how hip hop is or isn't dead.

Why is this still hapenning? You'd think the trend would have died by now. I suppose it's wound down a little, but geez.

The term "swag" in general

The bizarre worship/dick-hopping of Lil wayne, drake.

 Skinny Jeans

"hip-hop" fans singing out loud awful radio songs and such, thinking they know everything about hip-hop.

Going to far with their "street cred"

The Jacka ft. Freeway - They Don't Know

a_ratchet_fan

I've posted thoroughly on this a number of times in the past, so I won't repeat it here, but I completely agree.

I think part of the problem is the homogenization (sp?) of alot of rap these days ... cross-overs are cool; making everything sound the same is not. I hate always referring to the East Coast when it comes to these problems, but they're probably the best example here. Outside of the dudes still trying to sound likes it's the 90's, most east coast beats these days sound like they're from the south anyways. Everybody from Fat Joe to Dipset seem to see some money to be made there.

And it doesn't matter what coast you listen to these days, they've got trap rappers, they've got screwed hooks, etc.

But back towards the subject of coastal collabos ... I do think the more modern version of the mixtape that's turned up over the last decade has helped a little bit on this. Swishahouse has some simply phenomenal taste in selecting beats from across the country for some of their mixtapes, and it's always interesting to hear guys like Yung Redd rapping over some 9th Wonder soul. And I was listening to Rich The Factor's latest mixtape (Rich is from KC for those of you who don't know), and he was rapping over Wale's "Pretty Girls", lol. I love hearing this kind of stuff, but I just wish they could go the extra mile and make original collabos; get Rich, Wale, and whatever Wale's producer is named together and put them in a room and see what happens.

I guess I'm just spoiled by the days of UGK showing up on Celly Cel's record, or E-40 showing up on Cool Nutz's record, etc. I want to hear T-Nutty and Z-Ro on a track together. I want to hear D-Lo and Plies. I want to hear Mouse and Ghostface Killa.
