Probably Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five- "The Message" because songs began to have meaning and people would rap about their surroundings and lives.

"Changes"? C'mon. It was a posthumous single in 2000 and it wasn't influential. Popular, but not influential. I don't say any way it's anything other than "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang." That song pretty much singlehandedly changed the direction of hip-hop.
