Why is it called the Dirty South

Is it because it's actually really dirty, like cause of heat and whatnot. This video being a prime example of it's dirtiness. Or, is it dirty for other reasons.

I've never really got it since I don't listen to a ton of Southern Hip Hop and I can't find anything on google except for the states that was included in the Dirty South.

I heard some faint grumblings that it might be named after this Goodie Mob song but I don't know for sure if that's the case (What came first, the Goodie Mob song or the term)

Cool Breeze coined the term "dirty south" on that Goodie Mob song and it has just grown since then. There are two main reasons for the term to my knowledge...

1) The history of the south, particularly slavery, oppression and racism.... which are all themes that are touched upon on Goodie Mob's Soul Food album as well.

2) And to a lesser extent the country setting of a lot of the south.
