Yeah. OT is just a really insensitive forum in general due to the high amount of manbabies and kids. And I've noticed that it's usually the people that have negative attitudes about gays/transgendered people that usually don't have sympathy for bullied people or people who comitt suicide.
[QUOTE="Capitan_Kid"]Inb4 victim blamingOleg_Huzwog
I don't blame the victim; I blame the person who killed her.
Or 'people' in this case, herself included. If these people were constantly telling her to kill herself, knowing that she was already more than a bit unstable, there's a good chance that they're at least partly to blame in all of this. Perhaps these taunts were what caused her to have suicidal tendencies, or perhaps these taunts were enough to drive her suicidal tendencies over the edge? We don't know, but it's possible that these other terrible people are responsible, and in any case I would love to see them feel the consequences of their actions.
Meanwhile, Wikipedia tells me that it is a crimal offence to incite suicide here in Australia, so that's interesting to know. I'm surprised that more places don't do that.
Didn't we already have a Last Fm story with some girl sending herself threats and killing herself? If it was just for attention, she wouldn't have killed herself. There's no point in getting attention if you're too dead to appreciate it.

What a bunch of pansies.SolidSnake35Considering you've been on OT longer than I have you should know by now that OT isn't one homogenous entity. There's a lot of fvckwads but there's also sane individuals who empathize with people like this girl.
That, or block the cyber bullies from your social network account so they cannot communicate with you. Easy.konvikt_17
.
sucks that she was bullied so much; that kind of stuff can be really hard on people who already have self-esteem issues.
and is it just me, or are kids these days becoming more and more sociopathic? I remember at that age, there were always a few bullies; but now it seems like they're all making it their goal to get someone to die.
I only skimmed the story, but people should not be charged for acting like shitheads online. Deplorable, yes, but not a crime. If this is really such a problem, schools should start doling out punishment to cyber-bullies. A school punishing a kid because of online conduct makes sense, arresting them doesn't.Rhazakna
The bullying hasn't gotten more extreme. Parents are just becoming less tolerant to the most minor things, and the kids follow suit. 15 years ago, if a guy punched another guy, there would just be physical pain. Today, if a guy punches another guy, the "victim" experiences severe emotional pain as well.sucks that she was bullied so much; that kind of stuff can be really hard on people who already have self-esteem issues.

Kids need to realize that as bad as things can get in life, someone else has it much worse and is still willing to go forward. Grow thicker skin and laugh it off, life is to short as is.
[QUOTE="Chutebox"]Or just educate them about things they shouldn't do with it... No shit. That's not the only reason. My kids will not have any access to computers or smartphones until they are much older. They have no business have either devices.Â

People really need to start raising their kids with tougher skin. All these kids killing themselves over cyber bullies is just ridiculous. When I was 12 I got shit said to my face. Never thought about killing myself. Kids nowadays are too damn sensitive. And arresting someone for cyber stalking? What the hell? They even outlawed trolling in Arizona.

Link? Because that would be pretty god damn funny :P
http://gizmodo.com/5898585/itll-soon-be-illegal-to-troll-in-arizonaKids shouldn't be allowed on the internet, until they are old enough to realise that hearing things on the internet is no reason to kill yourself.dramaybazWith the "helicopter parents" in recent years, I only expect the ability for children/teens to cope with issues in their own, to decline.
Damn, what has social media become? I had a Myspace from 13-18 years old and no one was bullied enough to commit suicide.
It probably has more to do with the pussification of America.Damn, what has social media become? I had a Myspace from 13-18 years old and no one was bullied enough to commit suicide.

I think people are underestimating what cyber bullying is. It's not just online, this new type of bullying flags you as a loser throughout school. I know most of you are nerds, so might not understand the power of girl gossip but word gets around easier now a days - so IRL she probably had it even worse. People can be absolutely cruel, now we have a record of what's being said rather than word of mouth - which limits exposure. It's funny how crass people are, this is what leads to bullying in the first place, as you think the person can take it, but often they can't. bobabanYeah I agree, the internet is a very large place and you never know who's planning/doing what on the other side of the screen. I think its reasons like this that may be why anxiety disorders/issues might be rising or be more common for people to have (myself included.) With social media sites and youtube, things can be shown worldwide, what if someone has found a picture of you online and they try to upload it onto youtube for some teasing video? What if someone is tracking you down and finds your Facebook Account? And wants to try and reveal your private information to the world? Its really not good. I think what would actually make the internet better would be for this social media crap to die down. Unfortunately that might only be a pipe dream.
Screw that why weren't her parents monitoring the messages she was getting and sending? If you charge anyone charge them...jeremiah06are you kidding? charge the parents because a bunch of kids pushed their daughter to suicide? the parents should have noticed that something was going on, but they're not wrong for respecting their daughter's privacy. If anything the daughter should have gone to them for help before resorting to suicide.

If anything the daughter should have gone to them for help before resorting to suicide. The child was 12 years old. The notion of respecting privacy at that age is outright dangerous. Children at that age lack the mental tools and understanding to be given that much respect, especially on a place such as the net. The parents should be very aware of what their child was doing online....it's their responsibility.

While I dont think the parents should be charged, I do think a large portion of the blame falls on the parents. I have to wonder how parents are raising children nowadays. You cant take a hit? We've all had people be mean to us, some more extreme than others, but we have all met people who werent kind and made our lives miserable. We either learned to deal with it, or fight back. I dont get whats going on with this new generation where anything can be a catalyst for suicide. Its either genetic or a problem in parenting, and If it were genetic, all these people would be dying out, so I'm guessing it s a serious problem in parenting.I feel like a lot of parents dont even know what their kids are doing nowadays. Perhaps parenting as yet to catch up with the networking world. Back in the days, you get bullied, you came home with physical signs, a black eye or something, and your parents would see it and ask. Nowadays its all online so I guess there are less signs and parents dont notice anything is wrong til its too late. :?

They are sick, twisted, devious little sh*ts and will be a cancer on society all of their lives.'
I really don't think so. All bullies grow up, and very few of them remain bullies.
Out of the group of bullies that generally terrorized the other kids in my growing up years, I can't really find one who hasn't changed fundamentally or one who would repeat the actions of his youth.
It's possible that there's one I'm missing or forgetting who has, but I think the odds are that most bullies will grow up and stop being bullies.
that whole "just log off the internet" is kind of stupid. She would still know that everyone is insulting her behind her back and obviously she would still deal with the repercussions of being bullied online whenever she goes back to school the next dayI think the bullies should be charged, however, I'm confused as to why she couldn't just log off of facebook? Or was she bullied irl too?

I have mixed feelings about this. I think bullying is wrong and should be punished, but can you be fully blamed if someone overeacts? If you get in an argument, call someone a loser, then they kill themself, should you be jailed?
