Religion is a scapegoat used by people who don't agree with it. Like someone else said, people kill people. It is the father's irrationale that is to blame, not "religion."

I'm actually serious about this. I think it's impossible to anthropormorphize a single deity without extremists being the inevitable result. A single entity can't be all aspects of humanity without contradicting itself but there will always be an exceptionally conformist element that will sublimate reason to insist that it can be. Once they've gotten in the habit of ignoring reason to maintain their own faith, they're pretty much putty in the hands of the unethical and the insane.

This is more about honor than anything else. The family was very religious and to have someone in your family especially your own child not following the rules and completely ignoring them is embarrassing and a huge insult to the family and the religion. You can't be serious. Hell, i went through the rebellious years myself, i'm sure almost everybody does, but this doesn't provide anyone with justification for murder. While i understand that the discussion in this thread isn't focusing on islam as a religion per se, the concept of honor killings is pretty much restricted to islam, sorry. Every other week i seem to hear of girls in western countries being killed by their fathers/brothers, and guess what they all have in common, that's right they're all muslim.

As it is right now, islam is a tribal religion, that like judaism before it, will have to break those primitive chains or else it will never be accepted as a civil religion; and I'm not even going to mention the strange concepts of gang rapes that seem to pervade some of the societies that practice this religion.

He didn't say it was justified. Just that it was sad. There's more muslims on Earth than there are Christians btw. I would avoid attempting to lump them all in one big box like that.

It's big news because we haven't really had a lot of this in the US in spite of a fairly large Muslim population. People have been rioting over honor killings in Europe though.

I am confused. Nothing in either of your statements point that Islam is the source of honor killings.
