16...seriously?

That's the age of consent in most places (countries with states vary somewhat) so is it just me or is that way to low?

edit: I don't mean two teenagers , i mean a 16 year old with a 60 year old which is legal in a lot of western countries.

Who cares about the minimum? The important issue is how come there's no maximum age of consent? It should be illegal for anyone over the age of 60, because that's just gross.

People are going to do it before that age anyway. The age of consent is mainly to protect young people from older people who will use them and most 16 year olds should be able to tell the difference between an old pervert and someone who generally likes them.

I think a 16 year old is plenty aware of the repercusions. It's not like 2 years will make any real difference.

But tapioca pudding is gross and watching old people eat it is even more gross so I guess we can't stop old people from being gross.

For guys its fine. But growing up with three sisters, being in long term relationships with a couple women, I have found that 16 is too young for a female to have sex. No 16 year old is mentally ready for sex. As much as they might think at the time. As much as they might think right after. well over here in australia,

a 16 yr old can have sex with some1 who is either 16 or 17 but any older and its rape and any1 that is 18 or older cant have sex with any1 younger than them only older.

Oh and its funny how the straight age of consent is 16 but the gay age is 21?

It's not just for old perverts. It's also to protect 16 year olds from guys in their 20's that can abuse the chick or also string them along to protect their psyche as they'll just attach and not be able to handle a relationship or the break up with an older guy. However, for non-relationships, I say let it happen if it's a one time thing. You know all guys look a bit longer than usual at hot 16 year olds. But that could be more because it's taboo.

Most teenagers are permanently rutting anyway so they'll go at it whatever abitary age you decide set. I think if you're a wee older, then the formula to keep to is half your age + 6. Unfortunately for me that means I shouldn't be sleeping with any females over the age of 60, mores the pity.

In holland I think they have brackets for dating and intercourse like 15-17 and 18+ it's not much but they're trying to create some kind of normal boundary

Under the Human Rights (Sexual Conduct) Act of 1994 "sex between consenting adults (18 or over) in private, regardless of gender or sexual orientation can not be outlawed".

Also, it's a straight 16 year age of consent (17 in Tasmania and the NT), unless you are a carer of the individual (i.e. teacher, boss, etc), and then the age raises to 18.

When I was in high school good luck finding anybody who was still a virgin at 16 unless they were either really religious, a nerd, a homosexual, or literally just wasn't trying (to include having the common sense to know being a teenage parent isn't a good thing). Kids don't care what the rules are, they're actually more likely to try and break the rules if they think it'll make them look cool. Not to mention the fact that sex feels good. With the age of consent, it varies based on the state you're in if you're in the US.

My problem with the consent laws is 99% of the time they don't have any protections for adults who were tricked. A 14-year old can show you a fake ID saying she's 18 and you can still find yourself going to jail for years with the prosecution saying her fake ID isn't an excuse and you should have known she was underage. It's to the point that you literally have to be raped by a minor to find yourself not going to jail and being branded a sex offender as soon as you come out. The cost of getting laid nowadays....
