I've had my license since last October. No crashes or near crashes so far. Althought this old lady took up half of the road when i was driving through an S shaped road. Was riding the curb the time she came across. Old ppl are dangerous behind the wheel lol. But seriously once you get the hang of it, its really simple. Like seriously anyone can do it. And its not like other ppl are out to get you. They think the same thing. Cept for the teenage texters who dont pay attention ( my sister..) sigh.
I can relate, but for me the only real issue I have is measuring distance, the anxiety goes away with practice I can tell. Even when I'm at the passenger seat and around traffic I can't tell if there's enough room to squeeze through traffic or when parking. The status of drivers around me and their dangerous behavior doesn't help either. I'm 25, got my license when I was 19 and I've only driven about 5 times in not-so-crowded areas. It's all about motory skills and mental state, if you get anxious alot or can't measure even after driving for so long then you're better off not driving. Think of it as a load off your mind, nothing to be ashamed about. I know I'll eventually be forced to start driving more often.
I know what will help. Go watch "Deadlist car crashes" on Spike TV, that should put your anxiety at ease. I always watch Air Emergency before flying, it helps. Seriously though, the more you do it the better it'll get, up until the point it gets boring. If you're really worried, be a defensive driver. ALWAYS expect the other person to do the unexpected, especially at red lights.....T-Bones are the biggest killer on the roads. I don't trust anyone while driving besides myself, and it's saved me from serious injury more than once.

120-140 on highways all the time and slow drivers (people who actually go the limit) really get on my nerves.

WHAAA and crashed into him.....always wait for it to turn red, always wait for idiots to come to a complete stop, don't trust anyone. Even worse if you ride a motorbikeI know what will help. The feeling goes away as time passes and you gain more experience. It was nerve wracking for me at first, but now I hardly have problems with it (unless I'm in an unfamiliar place).
I've been driving for a little over two years now. About 2 months after I got my license I got into an accident. Since then I've been clean though, excluding one mishap that was dismissed. It just takes time to get over that fear, I think most people who start driving find themselves in a similar position.
You're only scared cause you don't know how to drive Toriko42I actually do know how to drive though. I'm just nervous that I'll do something stupid on the road like make a turn when I'm not supposed to or get confused by a sign and end up in a ridiculous wreck. Heck, I won't even say I'm scared. Nothing really scares me. I guess anxious or uncomfortable is a more appropriate term for what I feel. And then it doesn't help when people road rage and such.
**** yeah. I've had a fear of driving since I can remember, and despite several attempts, that fear is still intact, strong as ever in my mid 20s.
