If you were to enter a shop and see a certain product on sale (foodstuffs usually), would you rather they had a buy-one-get-one-free or 50% off the original price?
I'm greedy, so I'd have to choose BOGOF.

Depends on the product.
Those going for breast agmentation should really go for the buy one get one free.
Going for the 50% off is a sin against man and god.
Buy three and get the cheapest free. Aww yeah.50% off I'd say. Usually I see "Buy two, get the third one free!" as if that will really entice me.

50% off. It allows me to choose if I want to buy one at half price, or two at BOGOF. The best of both worlds.
I sometimes buy BOGO stuff at my grocery store and only buy one item of them as they typically cut the price in half and split the cost between the 2 units so it is equal to 50% off anyway. In other cases, I would rather have 50% off if not at the grocery store.
As I'm sure many people have said, this is the same thing. But not quite. Yes, BOGOF is essentially 50% off, but that's if you buy 2. If I only want one, then I get it at half off and if I choose 2, it's still BOGOF at the original price. So, semantically, they sound the same and psychologically, with the word free in it, it sounds better off hand, but 50% is better. Also, things like 1.99 make you think it's cheaper than $2 and 2 for $5 or 4 for $10, where buying 2 sounds better. They're little psychological marketing gimmicks that play on lower prices or the words free and also play on perception differences.

I usually don't need the "second" thing, so I'll go with 50% off.I would perfer 50% off from a money standard
BUT stores know buyers If they put 2 4 1, They can put out more product
50% off. Most of the time, 2 for 1 is usually a bit more than I want to pay anyway, and I probably don't want more than one of it...
