Do you think the world will end in 2012?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
It's so stupid. The Mayans NEVER predicted the world would end or anything would happen on that date. Their calendar just happens to not go past that date. Were they supposed to have come up with a calendar that never ends? Heck, ours doesn't go past this year. :?
Nothing more than the Mayan calendar ends then. It all started as a stupid Internet joke/fad that somehow has turned into a big deal and is causing panic. I still remember when the article came out.Heck no, i dont know how they came up with that idea :?

The only thing that will happen with this theory, is that it ends up on the list of other failed "world ending" theories. People read way to much into things like this, and what's even funnier, is all the people trying to make money off of it. Then again...I'm sure they're making decent money off of it. Between the upcoming movie, and the books on how to survive 2012 out there, I'm sure millions will be made by some very witty people...
I should look into it myself maybe...and then spend it all before 2012 ends just in case. :D
I think the world's going to end Dec. 31, 2009 because that's when our calendar ends. :P[QUOTE="YaKyle94"]
Its crazy to think that a civilization that is now exstinct has made people think the world will end where they stoped updating their calendar.

Well thats good logic according to the people who believe the world is going to end in 2012. What makes their calendar superior to ours? lol
It just really shows the information age we live in. That and how stupid a lot of folks are. Only in today's age can a single article go from Internet fad/joke to worldwide fear. The only thing that will happen with this theory, is that it ends up on the list of other failed "world ending" theories. Either way, it wasn't brought back up until about a year or so ago and then the interwebs ran wild with it. Then right when the stupid fad goes away, there is a movie coming out.[QUOTE="joseph_mach"]

The Mayan calander does not end in 2012, it simply transitions. http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/2007-03-27-maya-2012_n.htmblackngold29Regardless it never predicts the world ending. It's right up there with 6/6/06 being the end of the world and more recently 9/9/09. Hell, people were predicting the end in 1999.
Thte world will not end, but we will run out of popcorn.JustPlainLucas
Even the Orville Redenbacher commericals :o

I say No. For one, the Mayan calander just ends in 2012 and the Mayans also believed you had to sacrifice someone for the sun to rise!

You are my son.
However, after each calendar year ended, also the world did. Also however after that happen the world is rebornIt's so stupid. It all depends on your deffinition of the word "world" with this question. If you mean the end of the universe, no. The end of our solar system, no. The end of our planet, no. The end of life as a whole on our planet, no. The end of our current human civilization, its possible.
Then of course there are other interpritations on what will happen on 2012. Many people think nothing spectacular will happen. Some people disaster. Some people think enlightenment or spiritual evolution. Some people think a political and religious upheaval against the powers that be. Some people think a dimentional shift. Heck some people even think aliens will come down and pick up a big enough group of people to continue the species in case something disasterous does happen here.
