So soon the two nations who will be hosting will be revealed by FIFA in zurich shortly.

Who do you want to win?

For me:

2018- England

2022 - Anyone except Australia

I'd hate it if Russia were to get it, with all the mass racism.

My understanding is you cannot have two consecutive World Cups on the same continent.

That's my understanding, aswell. But beyond that I don't have a preference.

That would be almost 30 years later..

Edit: Yet you can tell I don't follow soccer, because I just looked up past host nations, and only like two countries have ever hosted twice. So 30 years is nothing...

Yea, I understand now. My mistake. I was thinking it was like the Olympics where the USA has hosted several times.

If recent history is any indication, the Chicago Olympics would have been a disaster for Chicago's economy. I'm glad we didn't get it.

Again, as jaded as I am that England and Australia, the two nations where I have citizenship, didn't win, I can't say this is true given the World Cup's recent history. 2006 was in Germany, a liberal democracy. 2002 was in South Korea and Japan, liberal democracies. 1998 was France. 1994 USA, 1990, Italy, 1986 Mexico, 1982 Spain, etc, etc. In fact, the only questionable country recently has been South Africa.

The goal now seems to be to grow the international football brand in developing markets; Russia and the Middle East. Western Europeans will always watch it; Americans, Koreans, Japanese and Australians have other sports that deny soccer the dominance it has in other parts of the world.

Which are all predicated on how much money can be made for FIFA. FIFA probably won't make a hell of a lot on tourism in Qatar for example (what with it's rather backwards laws) than say, the USA or Australia. It'll make it's money in kickbacks and bribes.

The voters preferred Russia in the end.. unfortunate for us, but what can you do? Russia will host a very good World Cup given the money they'll probably spend, and they are very welcoming to visiting fans; the Champions League final in Moscow was a huge success, they even relaxed visa requirements for the fans travelling there. I think that England had the better bid, but obviously we were not preferred in the end for a range of reasons. The only hope for us is that Qatar fail to be ready and we step in for 2022. But the money there is insane too, they'll be ready for sure.

Alright, settle down. I'm aware football is massive in the Middle East; I wasn't saying that the passion for football was developing there, but economies were. That's why FIFA is putting a games there; it's going to be a lucrative market.

And there are plenty of legit reasons to not want America to host an Olympics.

I think I've learned more about Qatar in the last 10 minutes than I learned in the previous 21 years of my life.
