This is seriously cool. The Hubble Telescope has captured a picture of the Carina Nebula on the outskirts of our galaxy, one of the most prolific star-birthing regions. This plume of hydrogen-dust rising from the wall of the nebula is 3 light years tall. And no, this photo is not doctored in any way, shape, or form.

It's a man with a bear coming from his chest holding a spear riding a two headed tiger. That's a lot of awesome in one picture if it were real :P.

I remember watching a show about these type of images and it showed that a lot of the colors we see are input by a computer. A lot of the light coming from nebulae is in a spectrum out of human eye sight range (such as infrared light) so they capture it on the lense, and the computer adds color, or something like that. It was a long time ago, one lazy sunday when I was half paying attention to discovery channel :P So basically what I'm saying is that if you were to look at it with your naked eye, you wouldn't see all those amazing colors.
