40 Hours of Playing Grand Theft Auto IV Get You in the Record Book You Bet! o.O

A man from Mumbai, India broke the record for playing Grand Theft Auto IV for 40 hours and 20 minutes. 26-year-old Chirantan Patnaik took the Guiness World Record title of playing the longest time for Grand Theft Auto IV to India. He only took four breaks during the whole 40 hour record breaking ordeal which Guinness allowed 10 minute breaks every hour. This record surpassed the previous record which was 28 hours and 1 minute which was held by a American.

He said "There are so many other games which I have played for long hours. But I had never tried playing this particular game seriously. However, I knew that I can do it after I saw my brother playing it." He also added "I enjoyed the game very much," he says. "It's fun playing long hours. It wasn't that exhaustive for me, as one might feel".

Definitely reminded me of my days on World of Warcraft, but 40 hours is just too hardcore for me. Congratulation to Chirantan Patnaik.

anyway the longest ive played at one time is only like 4 hours.

nothing even remotely close to that, I think my longest binge was probably 12-14 hours playing Oblivion, just bathroom breaks and quick food runs.

Well I played MGS4 for around 22 hours straight on its release day. I took regular breaks for the bathroom and food runs but it was enjoyable. When I have free time its not uncommon for me to play 10 hours at a time on specific games going for different things.

My friends and I used had one or two Halo 2 all nigthers when we were like 14 and 15. I remember going to the convenience store, stocking up on munchies and stuff, and gaming for 12 hours straight...Haha. I remember that summer too, we used to play football or soccer from like 2 PM til it got dark around 8, went home, ate supper, went to someones house and played system link Halo 2 until like 6 in the morning. *sigh* Those were some of the best days of my life.

~20 hours when I got the PC version of Oblivion (and several big mods). I had already spent 700 total hours on the 360 version though. :P

Me and my buddies played the endless setlist 2 (84 songs) without stopping once. I was on vocals and, fun fact, I threw up a little in my mouth somewhere near the end of the list.

I usually get pretty antsy after a couple hours of playing, the most i've ever played is probably 6 hours with Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Box on the PC. Oblivion would be the runner up at around 4 hours a couple times.

Guiness World Records are a joke. I'm not trying to attack the guy who did this, but why couldn't they just do one record on how long someone could play any video game, not just GTA. They put 'filler' records in each year because they have nothing useful left to put in. As for your question, I haven't really played any game for more than 10 hours straight. I usually take half-hour to an hour long breaks if I do that.

That's not really hard to beat.

With Diablo 2 I've played above five hours a sitting many, many times. I can't say what's the longest I've played a game, but I've gone upwards of 12 with a few.

Wow. I can't play 6 hours straight, simply because I HATE being indoors all day. I hate it with a passion. Feels like a wasted day. I guess I'm a lightweight.

I think me and my cousin went on one of the longest game marathons when we were kids, when I was 10 and he was 11, we stayed up 2 days with breaks of course playing Super Mario 64, and in reality it was all one playthrough since we never cut it all, he ate while I played, I are while he played. Then we went onto SSB for like the whole next day, we never went to sleep for 48 hours.

The next, I was 12 and he was 11. We played Jak and Daxter for a whole day getting everything, and then we went on to play a bunch of other PS2 games. And I think we did the same with GTA3. Now me and him hardly hang out at all...

WoW gamers break the 40+ hour barrier all the time, and the 50+ and 60+ aswell. Hell, some of them don´t even take biobreaks, they just relieve themselves in various nestea bottles while pwnzin.

i only played for 3 to 4 hours i guess.. :P.. and thats only when i really like the game.. :V

40+ hours on a few occassions.. I could easily beat that record :o

Played through gtaiv 4 different times, easily 80 hours

Played through Fallout 3 on 3 different times, easily 150 hours

About 15-16 I would say.

I don't go nuts in just one sitting. I only play about 3-4 hrs during mornings and probably another 3-4 at night for my fave games like Fallout 3.
