There is no way there is not life on another planet somewhere in the universe.

and if that statistic is real, that is really really sad.

Yes out of the numerous planets and moons out there, only one has the potential to support life?. Hell there has to be atleast one planet that supports atleast microscopic life.

That's a very small percent, I thought it would be more. I guess I'm part of that 5% lol.

Aliens on this planet? I don't think so. Aliens in the universe? Well yeah I wouldn't honestly say it's a given. If we're the only life in the universe that's...literally the most unsettling thing I can think of...cept maybe if we were all about to die therefor exterminating all life in the entire universe Oh Crap.Ace6301

Your sig works so well with your post.

Actually there very well could be a technologically advanced race on this planet, I don't mean extra-terrestiral either.

Think about it, water life has been around a LOT longer then land based life. Its possible that something could have evolved deep in the ocean. Why have they not contacted us? You might ask? Well if they exist they most likely do not think we are worthy to be contacted. We are afterall in a constant state of tribal warfare which could be seen as primitive.

Where did you get that number? Your ass? Seems low

Whatever the case, given the super massive size of the known Universe (somewhere in the range of 100 Billion Galaxies), not a matter of belief. To me, it would be a damn near static impossibility if we were the only intelligent life in the know Universe.

Not to mention, that does not even take into account we cannot observe all of the Universe, or the Multiverse theory.

I dont think it matters how many people believe in extra terrestrial /aliens They either exist or don't exist. IT really doest' matter what people believe.. unless believing in them some how would make them real.. which it wouldn't. Now if more people believed in the possibility of them would this encourage them to explore the universe and find out if they exist? Maybe, but again.. I don't' think that's all together important. Exploring the universe for extra terrestrials is a huge risk.. and whether or not we should.. I'm completely on the fence about.

Well, if we want the human race to continue, vital we expand beyond this planetary system. Question of when, not if.

Expansion beyond this planetary system isnt' that relevant to the search for extraterrestrial life.. Seeking out life.. and making sure no aliens live on the next planet you want to inhabit are two different things.

And like I said.. it's a risk.. making ourselves known to an alien race without knowing what they can do, or their motives.. is a risky behavior.

How is it ignorant to not believe in aliens? They might actually NOT exist, and therefore, the people who were initially "ignorant" are actually right. As for what I believe, I don't really know. At this point, there's no evidence to suggest that they do exist, and given what kind of properties a planet needs to have in order to accommodate life, I'd probably say I'm skeptical. If they did find life I think I'd expect it to be bacterial or something rather than the whole 'take me to your leader' aliens. That's not to say that it would surprise me in the slightest if they did find aliens.

Well it must have been one hell of an effert to ask the entire global population if they believe in extra terrestrials, I would imagine a lot of the people in third world countries just looked at them blankly when asked :| like that. Or is 5% of the global population actually 50 Americans they asked out of 1000 while at the mall? :P
