If someone were to do that to my child, or younger sister, I'd be the one under arrest....for bludgeoning the guy to a pulp with a bottle of pulp-free orange juice in the juice aisle. I've been around many screaming babies, like on a 16 hour flight with nowhere to go, but that guy could have just walked away, he had a whole store to escape the baby's cries. I hope he goes to jail and gets jumped in the shower American History X style.

10thwonder

thank you, I really can't belive some people think the kid got what she deserved:?

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]I don't think it's right because it's against the law but for that reason only. That old man did that lady a big favor.

so it's not right yet you applaud the old man for it? He has no right to hit a two year old child he came on very aggressively as it seems his first remark was to shut the child up or he would, he did not ask nicely if she could please quiet her child down or leave the area or anything his first thought was to hit a two year old, and what favor has he done her? what right did he have to hit this randome child whom he found to be annoying, none, you leave your hands off other people's children, doesn't matter how much you think a big favor he was doing he has no right to hit this child.

Because someone needed to clean the kid's clock. It should have been the mom though. Like I've said like 100x time.

so you praise the man for what he did?

I praise that the kid was slapped. AGAIN, since you don't seem to want to read what I'm writing, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE MOM.

Yes your parenting style is apparently to beat the bejesus out of a child if they misbehave, but wether or not the two year old (cant belive this term is being a pplied to a TWO year old) needed her clock cleaned is no business of the stranger, and you cant say the mom should have done it since perhaps she doesnt smack her child silly, or perhaps the child had a tooth ache or she needed some sleep there are many reasons children cry and usually smacking them around doesnt make sense to me insolving the problem.

Maybe the mother will think twice before letting her child cry. Crying babies piss me off as I mentioned in the 'grind your gears' thread.

you sure know how to avoid questions..:)

let us pretend a stranger just walked up to your child and started slapping him/her, cuz they were crying, before you could react....would you say thanks?

if some stranger slapped my daughter...I would break his hand

Pirate700

I did not avoid your question. If some old man slapped my kid, yeah I would be pissed but as I said I wouldn't let it get to that point. Weather it's right or wrong, the kid deserved to get his/her clock cleaned. It should have been done by the mother though.

lol the 2 YEAR OLD deserved to get her clock cleaned...lmao...there is definately something wrong with people that think slapping a 2 yr. old around is a good way to punish them...at least wait till they're like 10..

and yes you did avoid the question till now...you didn't say you'd be pissed earlier...

I'm so sick of hearing screaming, bratty kids who walk all over their parents. For the love of god spank your kids so they don't grow up to be screwups.

This kid was roaming around the store away form the mom. That clearly isn't the case here. And if the kid is hungry, FEED IT. Either way, the mom needs to get with the program.

I'm genuinely curious what the acceptable response is when dealing with someone else's misbehaving child that the parents apparently have no interest in disciplining. As I implied before, I consider this man to have overreacted (or to have had poor impulse control) but I absolutely understand the impulse. Are other people just supposed to deal with rampaging little monsters? Guidance would be appreciated, since I have a couple of cross country flights coming up and experience has taught me that at least one leg will have some bratty child there to make my travel hell.

Ok you guys are taking pirates exaggerations way to seriously. We he is talking about disciplining the child, he's not saying throw the child across the store, and then drop kick her. He means slapping a childs hand we he or she gets out of line, or spanking their butt when they are really bad.

He's advocating that a stranger can slap a child in the face 4 or 5 times after apparently following the mother and child from one aisle to another. How did we exaggerate that?

How do you deal with it? well perhaps asking the parents if they could calm their child down, if that doesn't work ( and I'm sorry if this sounds condescending I don't mean it to) you be an adult and ignore it, that's how I feel anyways.

I'll smack the crap out of my kids because I'll love them, and I'll probably only have to do it a few times because they'll get the message. Kids need to learn their place in this world. You're the boss of them, not the other way around. I hate hearing screaming kids in public. Stop being such permissive parents.

Be a parent. You can be friends with them when they're older.

Guidance would be appreciated, since I have a couple of cross country flights coming up and experience has taught me that at least one leg will have some bratty child there to make my travel hell.gun65

How do you deal with it? well perhaps asking the parents if they could calm their child down, if that doesn't work ( and I'm sorry if this sounds condescending I don't mean it to) you be an adult and ignore it, that's how I feel anyways.

Some times it can't be ignored. I do agree the parent should be asked to shut the kid up though.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] He's advocating that a stranger can slap a child in the face 4 or 5 times after apparently following the mother and child from one aisle to another. How did we exaggerate that?LJS9502_basic

No I'm not. I said he shouldn't have done it and said it's against the law. My god some of you take stuff way too seriously.

We are going by your posts......that is all we have to go on. That is what you communicated.

I never said I support the other guy doing it. I was joking around. If you were going by my posts you'd see I said the mom should have done it and not him.

[QUOTE="gun65"]

[QUOTE="xaos"]I'm genuinely curious what the acceptable response is when dealing with someone else's misbehaving child that the parents apparently have no interest in disciplining. As I implied before, I consider this man to have overreacted (or to have had poor impulse control) but I absolutely understand the impulse. Are other people just supposed to deal with rampaging little monsters? Guidance would be appreciated, since I have a couple of cross country flights coming up and experience has taught me that at least one leg will have some bratty child there to make my travel hell.Pirate700

Was there a reason he followed them to another aisle. I'd avoid anywhere they were, myself.

[QUOTE="wildjango64"]thank you, I really can't belive some people think the kid got what she deserved:?

I think most are saying it for shock value. On the day their first child is brought into the world, and that primal instinct to protect their offspring takes a hold of them, they will think about this thread :P

You really think slapping them a few times is going to turn them into your obedient little servants?

Who knows. Maybe he needed something down that isle or maybe he's insane.

It does. If I was making a big scene somewhere my folks would drag me outside and give me what-for. Let me tell you, I was a very obedient and respectful kid that could actually be taken to nice places because of it.

Kids need to learn discipline and boundaries. Grounding doesn't work. They just get sent to their room where there are games and toys. I got spanked as a kid and I turned out ok, and my parents rarely had to do it because I knew who was in charge and I behaved.

Children need discipline....not abuse.

Slaping them once (not hard) to get them to shutup is not abuse.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am all for making sure my kids know who's boss, I will discipline my kids when they are out of line and give them a good wallop when it's due (as my father did my siblings and I), but for some people to say they are okay with what the man did is ridiculous. No one touches my family, unless they want to end up in the hospital.

I beg to differ on that, I was paddled as a child and all it did was make me mad more than anything else, when my mom would threaten to not let me play outside with my friends or not play video games, watch tv etc... That had a lot more impact than the spankings.
