I haven't seen The Blindside so I can't really comment on that, but the rest of the nominations seem pretty good...except:
The fact that Fantastic Mr Fox wasn't nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay makes me sad. :(
I would've liked to see Moon too (at LEAST for Sam Rockwell), but I didn't expect it to get any nominations since Sony wasn't supporting it.
Anthony Mackie would've been nice too.

The Blind Side for Best Picture is just flat-out embarrassing. It's really bad Oscar bait, and they just ate it up.

I was really hoping that Sam Rockwell would get a nomination..

I haven't seen The Blind Side so I'm going to keep all my inner prejudice inside for now, so I'll just complain on why Bad Lieutenant, Bright Star and 500 Days weren't nominated.

Also Matt Damon got nominated for the wrong role.

I have never heard of The Secret of Kells. Shame Mary and max didnt get nominated for best animated feature. What is with these award shows loving The Blind Side? I thought it was decent but nothing special. Also Morgan Freeman being nominated for best actor is stupid, his acting in Invictus was barely different from how he acts in most movies he is in. I wish they nominated a good actor instead like Viggo Mortensen for The Road, John Malkovich for Disgrace, Nicholas Cage for Bad Lieutenenat: Port of call new orleans, or Sam rockwell for Moon. Oh well, my choices never seen to be nominated. I am glad Colin Firth was nominated at least, he was great in A Single Man. Shame Abbie Cornish, and Katie Jarvis werent nominated for best actress. I expected them to be snubbed but it would have been nice to be surprised.

I liked the Blind Side, but that's weak it got nominated for Best Picture. I'll never understand the Up in the Air praise, too depressing. I hope Up wins Best Picture

I'm happy that District 9 got a best picture nomination and that Jeremy Renner got a best actor nom. I think that Anthony Mackie should have been nominated for best supporting actor, but I hope and am pretty sure that Christoph Waltz will win that category.

So will Avatar win best picture even though the only other award it has been nominated for so far is a visual award?

Aside from The Blind Side, I think its pretty good.

Avatar and The Hurt Locker have 9 nominations, and wow, Inglourious Basterds has 8! My three favorite films of the year are the most nominated, Im pretty happy.

I wouldnt call The Blind Side Oscar bait at all because even they were suprised by the critical and financial sucess of the film, nothing about it seems like they were going after the Oscars....that would be Precious. I havent seen The Blind Side so I have no comment on that yet, I'm more disappointed with District 9. VERY happy to see Renner get a nomination, although I'm upset Mackie didn't. Also glad to see Up and A Serious Man get a best picture nomination. Glad to see The Hurt Lockers score get nominated, didn't even know that had finally released the soundtrack until a few days ago. Glad to see In The Loop nominated for screenplay. Other than that of course there have things I would have changed but I'm not very disappointed, in the end as long as those who deserve to win do then I'll be happy.

After watching the film, it's kind of hard to not call it Oscar bait.

I agree with you on Precious.

Yeah but a film can have a story that feels like Oscar bait, but I wouldn't call it that unless it is waving its tear soaked handkerchief in critics face. I still need to see it though, obviously not happy with it being nominated, but as long is it doesn't win I can manage....at least it is not THE READER! :P

of course Blind Side is nominated - they made that stupid rule to have 10 nominations so they had to put stuff in there to fill it up.

I wouldnt call The Blind Side Oscar baitSaintLeonidas
After letting the homeless black boy stay the night in her home, the wealthy white lady asks him to stay there indefinitely. When she goes out to lunch with her wealthy / snobby friends, they react with incredulity at her actions. Soon, however, they tell her what a wonderful thing she's doing.

"You're changing that boy's life."

"No...", Sandra Bullock replies, waiting 3 seconds.

"...he's changing mine".

Oscar please.

What is wrong with Precious? It is not a great film but I thought it was pretty decent. There are tons of others I would have chosen instead though.

It was as if Daniels was experimenting with this film, and you don't experiment on a film with such emotional themes. The direction was one of the worst aspects of the film and I can notbelieve he got nominated. Also there is a lot that I think is wrong with Precious, it had some good aspects but none worthy of a best picture nomination.

lee daniels didn't do a good job directing? i give him massive credit for bringing out the perfomances in the actors in the movie that I simply didn't believe had it in them. I think he put together a great movie with a lot of powerful statements and it certainly deserves all the recognition it gets. Making a movie that moves people isn't easy and he obviously moved a lot of people with this movie.

Well that's some small nice news anyways that Brendan & The Secret of Kells was even nominated as it seemed to have gone under the radar of most folks. As little good as the Oscars are, I hope at least this means that the movie will get distributed in the U.S. even if it means just on DVD.

I hope Avatar and District 9 both win big

I will be happy with either winning best pic, i want a sci-fi/genra movie to win for once.

Honastly i dont want the hurt locker to win, it was good but overrated imo....and the blind side...wtf :?

i do want fantastic mr. fox to win best animated pic..but we all know who will get that :P

also shame for not nominating Sharto Copley or Sam Rockwell for best actor

I'm fine with the nominations this year. The Blind Side is the only weird nomination (They probably just added it as a filler anyways), but overall I think there are some great choices this year.

Anyone seen "El Secreto de Sus Ojos"? I was seriously shocked to see it nominated for Best Foreign Language film. I never expected it to happen. Its one of the best films I have seen in years. An incredible thriller, one of the best I've ever seen. I hope it wins.

(Even though White Ribbon is probably gonna win because thats the movie everyone has seen).

Only big gripe is that Fox isn't up for best picture but Up is. I think FMF is easily better than Up in just about every single way. Besides that no major gripes. Maybe a Nod for Mackie for Hurt Locker.
