I wonder how the Oscars will go this year. Even though I dont care about them I notice they seem to be the ones everyone follows. How will you guys react if The Blind Side wins best picture:P Its weird though if the best picture catagory got bumped up to 10, why not best director?
2009 had a bunch of lame movies, but glad to see the good ones were nominated...
hope Inglorious Basterds and Mr. Fox get an award...
didn't see Invictus but I do like Morgan Freeman...
District 9 deserves a win...
so does UP, wonder how it'll turn out...

I like Morgan Freeman too, but he is not a diverse actor in the slightest. His role is Invictus is the same as most of his roles. There are a bunch of actors in 2009 like Sam Rockwell, Nicholas Cage, and Viggo Mortensen who had much better performances.
How did Inglourious Basterds get on the list? It was easily the worst movie I've seen all year. The only film I considered walking out of in the theatre.
And yes, I did see Transformers 2.

I will admit, there was about.. 30-40 minutes worth of fantastic film in the movie. So there were a lot of moments I genuinely really enjoyed in the movie. But unfortunately the movie was 2 hours and a half long. I'm not going to say the movie had too much filler, because I think it's clear everything in that movie had a clear purpose and intention, but most of it for me seemed pointless and dragged on to me. I think it would have made a great short film though.

I can understand why you would think that. Tarantino's films tend to drag a bit for me too, but weirdly enough I found Inglorious basterds dragged the least. The bar scene especially was one of the movie scenes of 2009 to me.

My guess is you are not familiar with Tarantino, or for that matter, good films.

Come on, now. All of Quentin Tarantino's films are "good"? I don't like the man (or most of his films, for that matter), but Death Proof is just bad - really bad.

To be honest I only really like Inglorious basterds, and Reservoir dogs of his films.

Or...and I could be wrong here....he just didn't like the film. Hard to believe huh!?[QUOTE="_BlueDuck_"]

What I think about Tarantino films is irrelevant. This particular film just didn't do it for me. As I said, there are plenty of good parts and components to this film, but not enough to make it come together as a whole. Scenes that are way too long, inane and meandering dialogue, hell even simple things like the camera panning took three times as long as it could have. I liked the whole idea of the inglourious basterds (though I had a few moral qualms with it), but they didn't even take up a lot of screen time. There were good bits to it, but all the other simply boring bits essentially ruined it for me.
At least Transformers 2 had a constant supply of explosions to keep me semi interested.
[QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="Im_single"]Sam Rockwell should've got a nom at the least, oh well....SaintLeonidas
He really should have instead of Morgan Freeman. Heck Nicholas Cage should have too, just watch this and you will see why:D
He is beyond nuts.
um...warning spoilerOh crap forgot about that.

It is an awesome part of the film though :PSomewhere in his mansion made of gold while attended to by clones of Megan Fox one Michael Bay just did a major spit take at Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen getting cutblocked by Star Trek for a Best VFX nomination.
I just hope Avatar loses both Best Picture and Best Director. James Cameron can't be king twice. Also, I just don't like him, so to see his ex-wife beat him in own forte will probably hurt him (on the inside), which would be delicious. :twisted:homegirl2180
I don't think losing to his ex will hurt him since the two have been best friends once for quite awhile now. I guess being divorced from each other was best for their careers. Plus, Cameron will just go home and take a swim in his money bin.

I don't even remember The Hurt Locker having a soundtrack :?
It was nothing special. Lots of atmosphereic sounds. I dont see why it was nominated for best score.
I think "The Way I Am" alone is deserving of the nomination. I loved the soundtrack/score, fit the tone and mood of the film so damn well.[QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="Ultrabeatdown55"]

If I wasn't watching the film the soundtrack would be pretty dull. I do agree though that it fit the tone of the film perfectly, but other scores have done that better in 2009 like Bruno coulais' score for Coraline.
I think most people were too engrossed in the film of The Hurt Locker to even notice there was music in it.Nerd_Man
Heck I think the film's more minimal use of music was pretty effective. I barely noticed the music, and when I did it was pretty subtle like when he pulled on that wire and all the bombs got pulled out of the ground. There was some cool use of music there, and in the sniper scene. However it is nowhere near my favorite score of 2009.
