I think 90s nostalgia is clouding your judgment a little bit. The 2010s have Justin Bieber, but the 90s had Vanilla Ice and tons of boy bands.

yeah but atleast when the boy bands were out, a band like radiohead, alice in chains or soundgarden would make up for it.

The 10's have just started. Its only 2010. I say its right to judge by 2016. Its way too early to already hate this new decade. We're kinda stuck in 00's still.
10's, 00's, 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's. You guys only think earlier decades were good because other people have already picked out all the good stuff from the bad. Remember Kriss Kross? Of course not, but that **** was all over during the 90's.
The 90s were great. Music, TV, movies, games, internet, etc. The 60s were great because they ushered in news sounds, but I think the 90s perfected them. The 2000s were in some ways a copy cat of the 90s, but much worse. I don't think we've been in the 10s long enough to really judge. It goes like this: 90s>60s>80s>70s>00s
IMO the 80s is the best. Lots of great metal, rap was pretty good back then, industrial music started gaining ground, hardcore punk and post hardcore, post punk, the list goes on...
I think the 90's look alot cooler 10 years after it ended than 10 days after it did. Basically what i'm saying is if OT existed in 2000, and we could go back and see the posts, those posters would not be thrilled with the decade that had just ended. I'm not saying someday we'll look back at the 00's as the greatest decade but I think it won't be too long before we don't see it as the worst ever.

Nah, so far 2010 has been awesome for music. Mainstream music for the past 20 years is just crap. You can't base an entire year on that. In fact, it's furthest from the truth.
How exactly does one rate the "musical quality" of a decade anyway? Is there anybody here who's capable of listening to the tens of thousands of songs released every ten years, rating them and plugging the numbers into a calculator so they can get an "average musical quality" with which to compare?
60s: Psychedelic/"Classic" Rock ---(Best. Decade. Ever) 70s: Funk, Disco, Progressive/Hard/Glam/Punk Rock ---(Still mostly okay, I guess) 80s: Teen Pop, Glam Metal, Hard Rock, Thrash Metal, Electronic, ---(Not so bad..) 90s: More Teen Pop, Country, Alternative/Grunge Rock ---(Getting worse, there's still Nirvana though...) 00s: Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Electropop/Dance Music ---(oh god, not one genre even remotely likable...) Not really far enough into '10s to list that, but seeing as how popular music has pretty much just had a steady decline I think it's pretty safe to say that the end is night...

most punk was in the 80's. 80's punk was much better than 70's punk.

Sigh......to be a teenager growing up in the the birthplace of thrash metal during the 80's........that would've been epiiiiiiiic 8)
90's had the best cartoons but the worst music imo. The grunge phase really turned me off to mainstream music in general. Same with pop phase. im not gonna rate them cuz all my favorite music comes from 2000's. Not to say i dont like any other era of music just my personal favorite is still around.
