A 100% chance at $1 million or a 50% chance at $1 billion?

[QUOTE="Lostboy1224"]but I want the million to be presented in Gold Bar form. Pirate700

Why? When the price of gold eventually tanks you'll wish you just had the money in the bank.

Its way more likely my country's currency will be worth nothing in the future than gold not being worth anything. Every country freaks out over gold so I'd be alright.

I would take the $million because I'm not rich or stupid, or both. The feeling of losing the 50/50 and not getting anything would feel worse.

50% at the billion. You plebs can enjoy your million while I enjoy my billion (see: millions upon millions). If I lose, oh well.

100% at the million. I could get a nice house outright and never have to worry about mortgage payments ever. Depending on what kind of house I get I'd even have some left over for a car and still more money after that.

A million isn't going to last me through to my retirement, I'll take the 50/50 on a billion.

Pirate700

It could if you spend it properly.

It easily can. Just don't spend the million like you have a billion. At worst all you'd need is a little part time job a couple times a week.

Look at it this way, your choosing between living a dull life stretching out a million dollars for 30+ years. Which would basically be the same as not getting anything. Or you could take a 50/50 chance at winning enough money to where you could live every dream you could ever imagine and never have to worry about money again. That is a no brainer. "spend it properly", give me a break, what an exciting life it would be to live off of a million dollars for 30 years. The only difference between a part time job with a million dollars is I wouldn't need a roommate.

id take the 50% chance at a billion. A million is nice but not enough imo. I would want to be set for life with that being at least 100k per year. so id go for 50% at a bill and your chances are pretty good. If not oh well no major loss a mill can go real quick like anyway.

Wait so getting $1,000,000.00 means I'm automatically quitting my day job? Over a 30 year period you can turn 1,000,000 into 17+million with compound interest, yes it's not one billion dollars but it is a large enough to not need to worry about money, AND it's relatively risk free.

That's exactly my point. At this day and age, 1 million dollars isn't life changing anymore. Just because I suddenly won a million dollars, doesn't mean I can now live the rest of my life comfortably. (At least, not what I would consider comfortable)

Probably take the million. I can work with a million and make it last pretty much for the rest of my life. I'd buy property and invest and profit from it eventually. A billion is tempting but not getting it would be reeeeeal bad.

Besides, past a certain point, having more money really doesn't do anything for your happiness level or anything like that. I'd be more than happy with a free million dollars and I could live off it realistically for the rest of my life and benefit my friends and family in the process.

I'd like to think that unless I was in an absolutely desperate situation I'd go for the billion. I am actually not a risky person, and if it was something like $1 million or $5 million I'd go w/ the 100% on $1 million, but at 50/50 the odds aren't against you, and a billion is so so so much more than a million, honestly in today's society a million isn't eventhatmuch.

Maybe I'm being naive, but I just feel like, there really is no way I'm going to ever live the life of a billionaire, having a billion dollars opens doors to opportunities, places, people, and worlds that are completely different from those of the normal population.

Again, maybe I'm being naive, but I feel like there is a pretty decent chance that with my ambition and drive I could eventually earn a fairly decent amount of money on my own that would atleast rival a million dollars, and in a sense live a pretty similar lifestyle. I mean I suppose I'd be working so there is that, but without smart and lucky investments you'll have to work after winning the $1 million anyway.

Maybe when I'm older my outlook will change, but it seems logical to me atm.

Totally take the million. I'd be so depressed if I lost on the 50/50 roll. 1 million isn't that much anymore, but it's enough to pay for a few degrees, a quality vehicle, a quality home, and financial breathing room for a long time.

Winning a million dollars means if you are smart you will likely never need to worry about money again, do you know what kind of security and happiness that would create for almost anyone on the planet? I know it doesn't mean amazingly comfortable, but 99% of the people in the US would lead a more comfortable life. What kind of life are you envisioning that you need a billion dollars to live comfortably?..

Are there specific experiences you are looking for? Billionaires do not have higher happiness levels than the average person, wealth does not equal happiness. The million dollars would buy assurance, something that can be invaluable for many, why does this not please you?

Earning a million dollars over a lifetime does not= getting a lump sum million dollars. A million dollars is plenty to spend, save, and invest. Is there some lavish lifestyle you are wishing you had that you do not? Even billionaires work, it can get boring if you no longer have a job or purpose.

If you really wanted to you could live off dividends of $1 million and not work.
