So, my 11 year old sister wants a Scottish Fold kitten for Christmas. She's not getting one- we already have a cat, a dog, and a rat. Big deal, she'll get over it. Well, she's also spoiled, and she's going to ruin Christmas morning. Any suggestions on how I should console her beforehand?

Get your current cat to eat your rat, then she can have a kitten. Problem solved.

Tell her to be thankful for the stuff she already has.

I know how you feel. 2 years ago we went to my aunts house for Christmas and my little cousin (who is really spoiled) didn't get the toy he wanted so he stormed out of the room crying. I thought it was kinda funny

Well, I've told her that, but like I said, she's spoiled. Now, this doesn't bother me, for the simple fact that my two sisters have every right to be spoiled with the wayour parents are. If she didn't get the things she wanted, she would lose her sanity.

Was she told she was going to get one? That's pretty mean if somebody told her she was getting one and now she's not.

See, now that's not a good thing. They'll end up being very shallow and materialistic people if that continues : /

If you promised her she was going to get one, then you better have a really good apology. :P

I would be mad if that happened to me

Dang, that sucks. You think she'll grow out of it?

Well, I don't mean she would literally lose her sanity. But her getting the material possessions that she wants a lot of the times is just comared to the mental abuse she endures. I went through 21 years of it, and I'm alright now, but I was a ****ed up kid because of it. It drove me to a lot of bad habits and a few addictions, some lost and some that still haunt me.

Yes, as I did. But for now, it's the lesser of two evils, tbh. If she didn't get a lot of what she wanted she would have a really sad life. She's already lacking friends because of my mother.

She was, a while back, but now they are trying to break it to her softly, and she's handling it very badly. Once the time comes to open presents in a couple days, **** will hit the fan. She'll whine about it, but my mom is going to escalate it, which will make my step dad escalate it more, and it will end with my mom packing her suitcases and making outrageous/irrational statements...it's just a vicious cycle of which I'm usually the mediator.
