Spacemen 3
My Bloody Valentine
Whitehouse
Joy Division
Slowdive

Seriously, there isn't much else. England gets props for pretty much inventing shoegaze, but other than that, they're pretty much a black hole when it comes to music. Americans started doing the same stuff that Whitehouse does, but probably better. England probably shouldn't even be compared to America as a whole, because it would just get it's ass kicked again and again and again. Even if you just compared England to individual states, most would still wreck England. Michigan, for example, destroys England. Michigan rules.

Anyways, I might have forgotten a couple of bands. Recomend me some decent English music here, so I can have a better opinion of this sad country.

Uh... Beatles? Rolling Stones? The Who? You're missing a lot of good bands here. There's tons more... I just can't think of them off the top of my head.

my favorites would include Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Beatles, Oasis, Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys. You might hate them or love them, but it's what I like and I can only hope you like them too

Didn't mention Bowie. 80% of the stuff Bowie did was pretty decent.

Sex Pistols are a joke. Awful band.

The Clash are boring.

Everytime I think about listening to the Cure, I just assume I'd be better served by listening to Joy Division. I'm always right.

I don't care about the Rolling Stones. I'm not your dad.

And I guess the moral of this thread is that there are some people who don't like anything popular on principle.

Black Sabbath and Electric Wizard are awesome. America has Sleep though, proving we can rip off black sabbath just as well.

Mogwai are pretty cool, but they've gotten pretty boring. That's not as much their fault as much as post rock just getting boring in general.

Britain is a breeding ground for great bands. It easily has the longest list of great, acclaimed, musical talent. I'll leave it to someone else to build up a list.

Cathedral is also quite good for those blasted Brits.

However, the Americas do have Kyuss, Weedeater, Cold Mourning, etc. But you do have Mistress, though, which is made of pure awesome. AND Mistress pretty much became Anaal Nathrakh, which makes Mistress significantly more awesome.

America also has way more noticeable BM acts than Britain, I've found. So, Britain is kind of obsolete.

Are Coldplay really from England or did they originate in a Clear Channel executive office? I'm betting on the latter.

Pink Floyd would be cooler if they didn't have their heads up there ass and there weren't 500 better bands to listen to when you're high.

What does the American BM scene even look like now? I have no idea. I assume that it's pretty much divided into dudes who bought guitars at hot topic, WITTR and bands that sound like them, and closet weirdos that make extreme harsh BM that barely anyone ever hears.

While I agree American BM is pretty terrible in general, and doesn't hold a candle to some of the older Norwegian acts, there are some fairly solid American ones: Xasthur, Leviathan, Judas Iscariot, Nachtmystium, Hellvomit (lol production). Really, the entire BM scene is dying slowly. A shame, but that's how it goes. Read something about how BM and DM are the next sub-genres to be destroyed-- which is becoming quite evident with what Satyricon and Dimmu have become along with Cradle of Filth.

Dude, I recently made a thread in the Ska Union about quality UK ska bands - bearing in mind what a niche genre it is - and the list was about 60 bands long. Try harder. Not our fault you don't look hard enough.

A lot of those bands are amazing, (btw you forgot Portishead) and theres more bands as well that were not mentioned. To minimize Englands huge talented bands to a list of 5 or 6 is just a complete joke.

Already addressed most of those bands, but Arctic Monkeys are about as interesting as watching actual arctic monkeys at the zoo, in the sense that they sit around eating bugs, being cold, and are boring as hell. My list wrecks all those bands.

You're just spewing subjective crap. Arctic Monkeys are one of my favourite bands, I like them. Same goes for Pink Floyd. You might not like them, but it doesn't change a thing.

Steve Albini's produced a couple of good bands from England, I think. Maybe just Europe as a whole. I can't be bothered to name them, but I'm sure there's a catalogue of all the albums he's ever produced somewhere on the internet.

In this context, you're calling them the best English band ever because of Tubthumping, which isn't being serious on your part. However, if you're talking about Chumbawamba of the 80s, then I can understand your sentiment. Also: lots of good anarcho punk bands from England.

Looks like we have a hater here because he knows our music is too good but will not admit it.

No-one mentioned Portishead?

Oasis (don't really like these though)

Depeche Mode

Blur

Razorlight

You can't really have a list that is comprehensive for such a subjective thing as music...

Also, OP is a troll, or at least comes across that way.

Steve Albini produced almost all of Whitehouse's 90s output. I have it covered. Also, Steve Albini production doesn't automatically mean the album rules. It will still be a lame record, but you'll be able to hear every aspect of the lameness really well.

Your bigoted opinions are as welcome as cancer.

Other people like the bands that have been mentioned, so there's no point in continuing the thread because you're just going to pooh-pooh over any British band mentioned... It makes the thread futile, to be honest, and it comes across as trolling.

But you probably already knew that.

I advise everyone in this thread to get a sense of humor. Anyone who comes into a thread titled "A Complete and Comprehensive List of Good Bands from England" expecting to find some wealth of knowledge probably doesn't belong on the internet. I posted 5 or so bands (that nobody has said weren't awesome) and a goofy paragraph with the intention of having a lighthearted discussion about English music, and how American music compares. Don't get your panties in a bunch when I don't mention Pink Floyd. That isn't what this thread is about.

And with that, let me state, for the record, that I hate Morrissy.

Recomend me some decent English music here, so I can have a better opinion of this sad country.

this is a joke right? Music wasn't invented in 1985...
