It's racist becuase the mascot is a rebel and rebels show discrimination to blacks, so therefore the mascoy is wrong and raicist! Nuff said.Tech-Man08It's quite obvious that you didn't read it.
[QUOTE="Cube_of_MooN"]Well thought out and well writen.SmashBrosLegendThank you for taking the time to read it.
Actually I read it, it's still racist becuase rebels represent the Confedracy which WANTED SLAVERY!

Just that statement implies that you either didn't read it or didn't comprehend it.How many times do I have to tell you? I read the freagin letter. You were just talking about how the South was in an economic crisis blaj blah whatever... C'mon it's u against your Student Council. Your student Coucil knows whats best for EVERYONE'S intrest not yours just becuase your related to "Stonewall Jackson"! Who cares? He was just some guy thatdodged bullets during a war.
Is Johnny Reb a Confederate Soldier, or an African American. Because if he is an African American he is in the same boat as the Cleveland Indians and the Red Skins. (People have been trying to get them to change their mascots for years)DireOwlThe johnnyrebs were a class of Confederate soldier.

I like that episode :P
My recommendation is to condense it......a history lesson isn't needed. Longer is not necessarily better, and may in fact end up boring the reader among other things. Stick to things that are directly relevant to your argument and the point you are trying to get across. It's more than likely they know their history.
Just my two cents.

I think it's a very well thought out, well written letter. I'm not sure that will change their minds, but I agree with you. The "Rebels" are a part of our heritage, and much more than just the losing side in the Civil War.wallymartinThanks.
I appreciate the thought, but you'd be surprised how ignorant the administration at my school is. They really do need the history lesson. My recommendation is to condense it......a history lesson isn't needed. I understand how you feel, but you're fighting a losing battle. No matter how much you don't like it, most people who celebrate the Confederacy and the Rebels, are racist. I lived and went to high school in Georgia, just south of Atlanta. One day, the redneck "population" at school decided to wear their Dixie Outfitters clothing, with every intention to offend the black students. The Rebel flag is basically the Racist flag now, if I'm correct even the KKK flys it. Unless drastic changes in opinion occur, you're screeching to the choir, and they have no intention of listening...

Ha. Didn't you guys beat Louisville this year? That's about all we did. Robinson is 7-28 for his three years here and the university STILL will not fire him. They decided it'd be better to let HIM fire his entire staff. Obviously the problem wasn't with him.

Ah, yes. The age-old KKK argument. The KKK is populated by a bunch of intolerant idiots, and their opinions should not have any bearing on actual important issues. If I started a hate group and decided to fly the Spainish flag, would it then become unacceptable for Spaniards to take pride in it?[QUOTE="SmashBrosLegend"][QUOTE="Dark__Link"]Wow. Meh. I'm a life-long Colorado State fan, and will be attending it shortly. The idiots fired Sonny Lubick, the man who established the school as a MWC powerhouse, because he had a four year period of inconsistency. Before Lubick, we hadn't made a bowl or won a rivalry game in over a decade. During the Lubick years, we were knocking off big-time programs like CU.[QUOTE="-Asterisk"][QUOTE="iam2green"]the other high school have the trojans ( igo to coolege now) SmashBrosLegend

Like I said, whether you like it or not, that is how it is and that bunch of intolerant idiots, who fly the Rebel flag, have an influence and bearing on the fact that the flag brings racism to mind. I remember in middle school, hearing stories in history class about kids who were told as children growing up, if they ever saw the Rebel flag flying, to leave that area immediatly. Culturally, they were afraid of the symbol. It holds the same fear as a Jewish person seeing a Swastika flying. I continue to stress, as much as you may not like it, the underlying message is still there...
And while we're into "what if" scenerios, what if there was a town, somewhere in the U.S., that was originally a Germam colony. Would it be okay to change their mascot to "Ari" or "Adolf" and be the Aryans? I mean they're taking pride in their German heritage, are you saying if some of them were related to Nazi's its not okay? Of course it was wrong back then, but now they're just taking pride in where they came from, right?-AsteriskBut there is nothing that can justify the existence of the Aryan race and the Nazi regime. Slavery cannot be justified, but the Confederacy itself can be. The Aryan race was based purely on genocide. The Confederacy was based on economics, Constitutional rights, state vs. federal power, and many other things in addition to slavery.
You should include George Washington in there too, he owned slaves and there is a state and a city named after him. No one seems to offended by either.

- Why is it alright for George Washington to support slavery and war but not the South? Both sides honestly thought they were being unfairly treated what makes the Confederates more wrong?
- The Confederates stood for some inhumane rights to be upheld but they honestly thought they needed to protect what they believed in and fighting for what you believe is what George Washington was all about.
- There are teams called the Bears and Lions but Bears and Lions sometimes kill people so does that mean the team supports what some Bears and Lions do? Of course not.

George Washington died almost 80 years before the Civil War, how the hell are you trying to connect the two? George Washington was fighting for a free nation, free from the tyranny of King George II. He was fighting for Constitutional Rights that they believed in, of which slavery was not. And I won't even address your last statement. :|

But the Swastika is an ancient Hindu symbol. So technically I could fly that and it wouldn't be racist. (Though I would have to explain the whole, Nazi's stealing the symbol part)

It's still extremely inappropriate and offensive. The Nazis single handedly transformed the meaning of the Swastika.
I would very much appreciate some more opinions.SmashBrosLegend
Very well written.. im not sure if they will actually pay any attention to it.. but your points are valid and i agree. Since you've taken the time to type it all up and taken the time to think about what you want to say, send it to them as is (i can't see how it can be improved) and let us know if you get any response. Good luck!

Does not matter. The Swastika is a part of my heritage
In Hinduism, the two symbols represent the two forms of the creator god Brahma: facing right it represents the evolution of the universe (Pravritti), facing left it represents the involution of the universe (Nivritti).
The swastika is considered extremely holy and auspicious by all Hindus, and is regularly used to decorate items related to Hindu culture. It is used in all Hindu yantras and religious designs. Throughout the subcontinent of India, it can be seen on the sides of temples, religious scriptures, gift items, and letterheads. The Hindu god Ganesh is often shown sitting on a lotus flower on a bed of swastikas.WIKIPEDIA
If you look, the Nazis took it and turned it on its side. The swastika isn't supposed to be like that. Don't even try to say they changed the meaning of it, it was been around WAAAAAAAAY longer than the **** holocaust.

It is not my problem that Nazis took the symbol, and Europe even tried to ban the Swastika.
It didn't pass.

Please clarify what you mean here. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, but from where I'm sitting it looks like you're belittling the massacre of millions of people.

What he was saying was that the Swastika's meaning has been completely changed, but there are millions of people who still see it as a symbol. I was trying to say thousands of years of history cannot be squashed and thrown aside because of something that happened in the past 100 years.
And for as why I said "****ing", that was how myself, and a few of my friends talk. When we want to add more emphasis, we usually say something(more often than not is a curse word). I know it's probably seen as crude, but that's the way I've grown up talking. I hope I don't come across as someone saying that those murders don't matter, because India has gone through many hardships themselves, it's just that the Swastika is still a symbol of my family's culture and faith and I do not like it when people talk bad about it. I cannot control the fact that Nazi Germany adopted the Swastika.
If you feel the need to moderate me, I will understand.
