So im not sure if its just me but, ive been seeing a steady growth of religious topics each and every day. Those that try to prove/disprove God and as far as i know there are no new points being made at all. Everyone argues and brings up the same exact points in each thread. Since we have so many of these topics can we all just agree that if you want to talk about religion or the existance of God you should probably use the search button and read up on the countless threads made before? This way we can clear up some of these useless debates from OT.

I just simply don't participate in those threads. I have a good idea of what to expect and I don't think it's any good.

In making this thread, you are only perpetuating the trend you wish to end.

Well in that case, I propose that OT should be composed of 50-60 or so topics covering all the major stuff we talk about, so that anyone willing to know the height, eye color, eating habits, workout habits, relationship status, workout habits, political views, workout habits, relationships status, political views, workout habits of OT can look at them and be instantly informed. Also, in case you're in the mood for a chit chat, I suggest taking a peek at the default Roll Call Thread of 500 posts and pretend that you are one of the posters making conversation.

This request has come up before. The general result of previous iterations of the request has been twofold: 1. Religion topics fit into the general subset of acceptable off topic conversation, even if some of the people posting in them are, objectively and easily provably, idiots. 2. They aren't going anywhere so the best approach to prevent subjecting yourself to repetitive arguments and "data" points is to avoid clicking on clearly labeled topics.

One thing that does annoy me is topics about the same specific thing. happened with the sopa thing. Seemed like many of the topics could have been just one main topic. Same with the Martin stuff.

That wont work, honestly though the religion topics are getting very annoying and just like system wars it is the SAME users making the same stupid arguments/counterarguments...

It feels like anytime I look at a religion thread it is groundhog day...

I read what you posted just fine. All you're doing is complaining about something you need not subject yourself to. So don't subject yourself to it.

Meh there's a limited number of religious topics to debate... once you participate in them for a few years you hear just about all the good and bad and ugly arguments there is to be had, and you realise that you're not going to change anyone's mind.... which also means there's no point in complaining about people discussing it over and over: they have to learn that on their own if they're going to. Then new people arrive with the same arguments - OT grows, you know.

Some people come here thinking they have some astonishing revelation that will convert or divert everyone, and some feel it's their duty to eschew arguments some famous debater came up with for/against religion to change people's minds. Some people just want to upset everyone. And some people actually want to learn but aren't ready to listen or their understanding of the world makes them receptive to but not in agreement with yours.

I participated in the debates for years before getting tired of the same discussions, compiled an archive of evidence for evolution and said 'Watch and Read.' Now it's just 'google it'.

Either you're ready to further your knowledge and understanding, or you aren't. Even if someone else guides you or says something that changes you're mind it's a personal experience, and we will have different reactions and arrive at different conclusions given the same data. Eventually you get over yourself and your plausible god complex of 'enlightening' others.

It's like drugs and alcohol. Some people are fundamentally opposed to their use, and others simply aren't ready to understand and experience them in a new way.

Religion doesn't exist unless you want it to.

Whether something exists or doesn't exist is independent from our consciousness. Maybe a blind man hears about the moon and refuses to believe it exists, but if he could only see it he would know that clearly it does exist.

this should've ended the thread. This may come as a surprise but different poster like to talk about different stuff. There is always 5-7 threads a week about "how do I ask this girl out" or "what should I say to this girl." I am not a fan of that particular topic, Do you know what i do? I refrain from reading the topic. Simple as that. I don't want to stop other people's enjoyment of talking about asking out some chick. They enjoy it...so have at it.

I greatly dislike TC's logic. You can apply it to any of a number of post topics here:religion, sex, politics, etc.

Well for one I don't think religious topics should be banned because they could possibly help someone finally accep God in their life. I have heard of an atheist who actually started believing in God. Acceptance of God and true morality are important to our lives. Another thing is people can talk about what they wanna talk about. Just because u don't like the topic doesn't mean it should be banned. Religion is a very interesting subject

The demographic here is too young, and since kids are dependant on their parents and are so naive they will believe whatever they are raised to believe. I have no problem with people expressing their views on religion but 99% of it is nonsense and I just ignore it.

Religious people are amongst the easiest to troll, have some fun with them!

God is not described as a 'concept' by religions. He is always an all knowing all powerful ''being''. People do not worship a 'concept' when they practice religion, they worship this 'being' or 'entity' described in religious texts you can agree with that right? Religion was a necessity for our progress as humans up to this point, but we are sophisticated enough now to ask ourselves if it is still a necessity in the way we know it.

Claiming religion was ever a necessity is as ridiculous as claiming God is an actual entity. You have any evidence or references to your claims? Or you trolling?
