I believe the Great Tribulation will take place, with three and a half years of peace, and then three and a half years of war, and then Christ will come. Due to the large amount of prophecies being fulfilled, also, I believe it will be sometime in the near future (next a hundred years or so). Here are some passages speaking a lot on it:
(Mark 13:5-10) - "And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: {6} For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. {7} And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. {8} For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. {9} But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. {10} And the gospel must first be published among all nations."

(Mark 13:11-15) - "But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. {12} Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. {13} And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. {14} But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: {15} And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house."

(Mark 13:16-20) - "And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment. {17} But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! {18} And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter. {19} For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. {20} And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.

(Mark 13:21-29) - "And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: {22} For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. {23} But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. {24} But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, {25} And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. {26} And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. {27} And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven. {28} Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: {29} So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
EDIT (I forgot to add this): This topic's purpose is evangelism. Please keep the discussion on Christian-based subjects (the Bible, God's existence, etc.) and, of course, the topic's question. Thank you.
God bless,
Crushmaster.

Crushmaster

Notice the absence of anything from the fourth Gospel, most likely because there is very little future eschatology there, the author favouring realised and inaugurated. The new testament is hardly as uniform here as crushmaster claims.

Well the bible predicted the information age, so we are closer, but umm it said that the world would be like noah, so I cant say it is quite like that. Then again there was a joker killer on the news, I cant really tell how it was in noahs time, but then again when you cant find a christian in real life, it makes me wonder. Well we are looking at a world currency, etc. So we definately are getter there, the bible also said there would be rumors of war. Kind of hard to estimate

That kind of sounds like what's been happening, oh, since the beginning of humanity. :P

Yes but not to the scale that it will happen. Another prophesy is that a king to the east will have 200 million men. Oh oh oh wait a second what did china recently say it could put together? Ya a 200 million man army. Also the 300+ prophecy's that got fulfilled in Jesus' life.

ShowStopper102

When did Jesus say he was coming back when Crushmaster is saying he will? All of those were statements made by people just like Crushmaster who looked at the prophecies in the Bible and concluded that the current state of affairs made it seem likely that Jesus was going to come back very soon. Needless to say, they were all wrong.

You're welcome to stress that this time the prophecies have actually been fulfilled, whereas they hadn't before, and that Jesus is definitely coming back now, but you'd be repeating pretty much exactly what everyone's been saying ever since Jesus left. History ain't too kind to people claiming that Jesus' second coming is imminent.

Yes but not to the scale that it will happen. Another prophesy is that an army to the east will have 200 million men. Oh oh oh wait a second what did china recently say it could put together? Ya a 200 million man army.Shortbob

A 200 million man army? Er, try under three million, and a size comparable to that of the United States'. Sure they could potentially put together an army with 200 million men - any country with that many people could - but that would kind of require the destruction of their economy.

And "not to the scale that it will happen"? If you look at history, the wars, famines, pestilence, etc. in the past were much more numerous than today. Heck, there was the Black Death, which reduced the population of Europe by almost half over only four years. Some countries' populations were reduced to as low as 25% of what they had been before the outbreak of the plague. Even both world wars couldn't produce mass death on that scale. Can you imagine how much those people probably thought that the End Times were imminent?

We have been in the "End Times" since year 1. I'm sure Jesus's apostles didn't think it would take over 2,000 years before "the end" comes.

Any country being Only China and India??? The Black Death was nothing compared to the billions that the bible says will die, there was not ever billions of people back then. We are talking about the complete enialation of some countries. When the Black Plague happened there was less that 500 million people in the whole world and we are talking BILLIONS. There has never been billions of people in the world until the last 100 years. So anything before would never come close to the billions it says in the Bible. Do I think it will happen in 20 years? I hope not and do not think so.

I doubt Christ was who he was made out to be in the Bible, so no, I don't think he's coming back soon. Or, ever, really. If he does, well then I'm royally screwed.

Futurism is a 19th century concept bred from a potent mixture of paranoia and booze.Theokhoth
Actually its a 20th century movement. And it was triggered by a lot stronger stuff than just booze.

The main uniform theme in Scripture is its continual speaking of Jesus Christ. For example:
(Genesis 22:18 ) - "And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice."
When it says "in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed" it is foretelling Christ's birth. Genesis is, as you may know, the first book of the Bible. It was probably written about 2,500 years ago or so.

Let's think about this for a second. Abraham is the one the angel is speaking to in this passage. Am I right?

Abraham means "Father of nations".

Would it not make sense to assume the angel is talking about Abraham's descendants (Remember what God promised Abraham) as in "all the nations". As far as I can tell, there is no prediction of Jesus in that passage.

So you think jesus was some crazy man who someone convinced people to die for a religion, like for example the romans would round up christians in the colliseums and have fun while they get devoured. He even allowed himself to be crucified, he didnt do anything wrong, he sweat so bad he was bleeding just thinking about what was going to happen. Then somehow he managed to come back to life, as in turn a rock, 500 people witnessed the event, and they started to preach to every creature about jesus. Now remember most of them faced death, in their heads hell was real, so it was best that they did not screw this one up. Also the fact that it is talking about places that actually exist, like Rome. That should clue you in that it is not myths, besides it isnt some fancy book that is always nice, its pretty real. Right now I am reading in leviticus, lots of people have died for disobeying god, rebelling, and provoked god by complaining. Now the liklihood that moses would make up things about what happened here and there is very slight, what would it prophit him to talk about plagues, etc. I mean he didnt even want to talk to the pharoah, which I guess you can say that he put in the book about him not following gods rule, and god wanting to kill him for doing what her wife said. If you took that to a court case, I think you would win in a civil case (given that the jury isnt just a bunch of athiest, and unbiased).

What is the liklihood that people would put themselves in harms way for something that is just made up for the heck of it, why would they die for something that they made up in their heads. People where put in prisions just for believing in christianity, john the baptist was beheaded, I really doubt that just put that in for the sakes of making up things. This is based on real people, they are very specific, talking about how long people live, the bible does not read like a fairy tale, it reads like history. It even predicts history, and a lot of it does happen, even small stuff. Like the birth of jesus, you can argue that people made some story up, prepared to make someone into this jesus so they can say "hey look it is true," but most people didnt even believe jesus was right in front of them, and they were jews!

What I am trying to say, is it is more likely that jesus was what he said he was, than not, I mean you dont just predict someone would be sold for 37 shekels, the pharisees were not in on the game, they where completely against god. They had their religion, which by the way to say that christianity is religion is actually a understatement, its a world view, but one that is about the real truth. Not just trying to get spiritual points for heaven.

I think it is best that you dont believe in something just because you want to (like god does not exist), but what is true...

Really? God is talking to abraham in that passage... and saying "In the SEED shall all the nations of the earth be blessed" That means people in his family line, David and Jesus (Who brought forgiveness for all sins) It is saying that a saviour (Jesus) will come from his family tree (Jesus). Sorry for not mentioning Revelations But HERE you go! "The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur (Just before this it talks about the 200 million man army, these colors are famous is Indian and chinese painting, the only countries in the world capable of 200 million men.) The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulfur.( Tanks, rockets, etc...) A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths.(Huge death tole due to millitary) The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury."(When you look at a plane directly as it shoots a missle it looks like it is coming from behind.) This is clearly discribing modern day (or future) millitary weapons.

When did Jesus say he was coming back in His current time? In the yea 1000? In the year 2000?

ShowStopper102

All this is JC speaking. There are plenty of other verses that indicate the apostles thought they were in the end times as well.

Matt 16[26] For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
[27] For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
[28] Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Matt 23[33] Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
[34] Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
[35] That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
[36] Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

Matt 24 [24] For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
[25] Behold, I have told you before.
[26] Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
[27] For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
[28] For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
[29] Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
[30] And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
[31] And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
[32] Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
[33] So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
[34] Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Mark 9 [1] And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

Mark 13 [19] For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
[20] And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
[21] And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
[22] For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
[23] But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
[24] But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
[25] And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
[26] And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
[27] And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
[28] Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
[29] So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
[30] Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
[31] Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
[32] But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Luke 21 [20] And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
[21] Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
[22] For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
[23] But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
[24] And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
[25] And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
[26] Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
[27] And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
[28] And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
[29] And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
[30] When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
[31] So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
[32] Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
[33] Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Funny how it is always coming "soon" or in the "near future". And yet, it never happens.

The end days are near, whether or not Jesus will appear is a different question.

I just look at it this way: "When It happens it happens." It could be tomorrow, ten years from now or perhaps maybe another century. Who knows, (well in the Bible says only God knows :P) Just be prepared for it, if you follow the Christian faith.

I just voted other for, "Maybe" and yes.

Excellent point. End of the world prophesies do seem to carry the dangerous possibility of being self fulfilling.

The end days is near according to various convictions loosely based on different religions and FOX news, yes. Which is more than enough reason for me to hide in a bombshelter with my laptop starting now.

Wouldn't everyone going into hiding be sort of self-fulfilling?

The signs are everywhere brother! *hides bottle of whiskey*

But seriously, we are facing an escalating world wide conflict. We are facing more extreme weather in the coming years, a lot more. These changes are not due to global warming though, but that's another discussion. Also more earthquakes and such

The economy is deteriorating, it will not get better for at least two years, and even then it's uncertain what will happen. A world wide depression could occur.

Less political stability, more power concentrated on less countries. China, EU, and Russia are all or will be superpowers. The relationship between Russia and USA has gotten worse, more instability in the middle-east etc etc.

Connect the dots, and voila

Now I don't believe in the end of mankind, but I do think world war 3 is near.

There are some conspiracy theories that coincide with many aspects of what many Christians believe to be end times. Talk of the RFID microchip implant and possibly all information being stored on this chip including money coincides with the mark of the beast from the Bible. One world government/currency is another. Do I think Jesus is coming? I have no idea.

Haha wow people actually live their lives according to a >2000 year old collection of scriptures. This both amuses and saddens me. By all means, don't mind me, I'm just here to watch.Belisarius-9
no offense dude but the whole world revolves around those scriptures rather you believe it or not? for example..these scriptures layed down the laws that we live by to this day...murder is wrong, stealing is wrong, adultry is wrong, lying is wrong...if it wasnt for these scriptures , then it would be acceptable in this world to do all of those things, if these scriptures back then said its ok to kill and its ok to steal, we wouldnt have laws against those things today because we wouldnt know any better?

[QUOTE="ShowStopper102"]

When did Jesus say he was coming back in His current time? In the yea 1000? In the year 2000?

GabuEx

Can you imagine how much those people probably thought that the End Times were imminent?

jesus says he will come like a thief in the night, and no one knows when he will come, so real christians know that people that say they know are full of crap jesus says he will come when least expected...so as long as we have ppl saying he will come it is a very good sign that he is not comming, when jesus comes 99% of the earths population will have given up on the thought of him comming back, crushmaster, is just looking for attention he doesnt know anything about the scriptures.

So here i was, thinking you were going tom talk about some scientific laws that still remain true (as the documents of the Alexandria library), and i was confronted with the most ignorant post i ever read on OT. You really believe what you're saying?

The oldest written law we have is the Code of Ur-Nammu dated about 2100 BCE. Of course we have evidence of similar laws even predating that. The oldest Old Testament we have is dated about 1600 years after the Code of Ur-Nammu. In the code you find laws against murder and theft. Also it has some laws about adultery although a bit more complex than the biblical one of 'kill everyone associated." And there are even laws for perjury. I shouldn't need to point out that adultery and simple lies are not illegal today.

And why do you think all the non christian countries today have these similar laws? They just pretend to not really believe in christianity but really use it to build their laws?

You didn't think this one through did you?
