I made a game when I went to Europe a few years ago to see if people thought I was Canadian, American, or German (I didn't talk). When I didn't talk, everyone thought I was German, and when I did speak, out of 12 people I asked, 9 of them sincerely thought I was Canadian.

Small similarities in culture to places will cause anyone to think you are something they are used to dealing with or hearing about. If a Mexican goes to Europe, some people will mistake them for Spanish, just as a Spaniard coming here will be mistaken for Mexican.
