I was talking with some friends during lunch time in school today, and one girl came up to our table and asked if we'd like to fill out a survey (though she didn't say what it was about). When we got it, it was about homosexuality. Me and my friends filled it out. Here are the questions and my answers:

What do you believe causes homosexuality?

My answer: There is no one single cause. It is a mixture of several important factors.

Do you believe homosexuality is something that can be grown out of?

My answer: It may be possible, but most evidence suggests that it is not.

Do you believe in gay marriage?

My answer: I believe in gay civil unions. "Marriage" is a religious term, and a Church may reserve the right to deny a couple, gay or not, marriage for whatever reasons they choose.

Do you believe gay couples should be allowed to adopt?

My answer: Only if they meet the qualifications for adoption and only if they are recognised as a couple by the State.

If, hypothetically, you have a child that turns out gay and you consider homosexuality immoral, would you support him/her?

My answer: Of course.

My answer: Mixture of multiple factors, but mostly caused by genetics alone. Environments and discipline can support or reject homosexuality however, but I do not believe that it could make one homosexual.

My answer: No. A homosexual cannot deny the fact that he/she is attracted to the same sex just like how heterosexuals cannot deny the fact that they're attracted to the opposite sex. You may think you've "grown out of" it, but you'll most likely be in denial.

My answer: Although marriage use to be strictly affiliated with religion, I believe that it has become a normal part of society. Thus, I believe that no religious aspects should hold back homosexuals from becoming married. If atheists or agnostic couples are allowed to marry, then why not homosexuals?

My answer: It is their own choice if they want to adopt a child or not, but, like every other citizen, they should be qualified by the United States government to approve of their skills as a parent.

He isn't refering to the parents abusing the child, but other kids abusing the child for having homosexual parents (such as the kids at a school).

And I disagree. A loving couple shouldn't be restricted to having a child just because other people are completely arrogant and immature on the subject of homosexuality. They shouldn't be penalized for the negative attributes of another person(s).

Yes, that's exactly what I mean... duh. I mean if you already knew, why did you ask?

I would actually largely agree with all of your answers. The only one where my answer differs is with the topic of gay marriage: what I think should be done is for the government to completely get out of the business of marriage. Have marriage a strictly religious institution, and split off civil unions to apply to both heterosexual and homosexual couples. Then have the latter confer what currently are the legal benefits of marriage. Finally, set it up such that marriage automatically creates a civil union between the two people, but not vice versa.

I think that the above solution would solve basically all of the issues involved and would finally unentangle the government from what is religious in nature.

I can't claim to know. However, I think it has to do with the gay gene, although I haven't looked into it a whole lot. I'm not really concerned as to what causes homosexuality as I am to how homosexuality should be treated. I, for one, also think that homosexuality has this "rebel" attitude in some circles of society. I, for one, considered homosexuality, but mostly for the sheer attention. Occasionally, I still ponder my sexuality unsure of what it is to me.I do think that there are homosexuals who are genuine.

For some people, I'm sure of it. I know if I wanted to be a homosexual, I could make the switch easily. However, I think there are some people who probably would have to try harder to transition out of it.

Believe is such a strange term. I do not believe gay marriages exist, or at least legally. I used to be in favor of them greatly, but I have come to realize that marriage has a lot of religious implications, so I've grown rather moderate and strayed away from the entire concept of religion. However, government should at least recognize a civil union or whatever they want to call it. I don't really care to be honest.
