I thought I would post this story again, as it is truly one of the most terrifying stories I have ever read. Seriously....the first time I read it I had to stop between pages, I was so tense.

:o I read that the other day!!! It's....creepy....not really scary though :P
It was a good, well-written story. Im sure It would have been much more creepy to him then us, but we all know what fear is like. Cutting off our own legs just to escape. Although, the part where he climbed out and the rope was pulling back was pretty scary. And especially when all 3 guys where having the nightmares.
man that was freaky... in a good way
though it has freaked me out and i probs won't sleep for weeks now
;)
Wow...excellent story. It very well may be fake, but if it is then it's a good story on it's own merits.
Summary for the lazy:
This guy and his friend were checking out this cave. They found a small hole and started chipping at it, trying to widen it. They kept thinking about how crazy it would be if they were the first people to enter this small area. Weird things started happening, there was a rumbling noise and wind, and they kept coming and going. When they brought their dog down there, the dog was seriously freaked out and wouldn't get anywhere near that hole. One day, when the guy was trying to widen it, he heard something a sound from inside it that sounded like a cross between a human and a cougar screaming in pain. Eventually, they widened it out. He went in there (his friend had a disability and was too wide to make it) and took a few pictures. He found a weird, freaky hieroglyphic-esque symbol on the wall and a bizarre VERY round rock. on the wall. The next day they brought their friend there, the friend was skinny, so he could get into the tunnel, but the guy who wrote the story hit his head and couldn't go in. The friend was gone for a long time, so they started getting worried about him. Eventually, he came out, but he was all freaked out, and he didn't say anything. Even when they asked him questions about what happened he just gave short answers that didn't really answer anything. When they tried to call him afterwards, he didn't answer, and its implied that they haven't had contact with him since.
They kept exploring, anyway, and the next time the guy went in, he went in even further. However, once he got pretty far in, he heard the sound of rocks scraping against rocks behind him. He was pretty freaked out. (He's in a tunnel all alone and he hears SOMEONE move a rock in there, meaning he's not alone) His phone that he's using to talk to his friend isn't working anymore. When he starts to crawl out, he sees that the round rock he found has been moved down from the wall and is sitting right on top of his phone's cord. He sees that the round rock was actualy blocking off another tunnel, but he's too freaked out to explore it. As he goes further out, he sees that the hieroglyphic symbol on the wall is glowing. He crawls through the tunnel and gets himself the hell out of there as fast as possible, and he got a lot of cuts and bruises in the process. Just as he's coming out, the wind comes in again, and he gets a whiff of the kind of wind it is. He described it as smelling like, and I quote, "DEATH", rotting corpses, dead animals, etc, apparently it was the nastiest thing he ever smelled. Right after he got out of the tunnel, he and his friend started running the hell out of there. When they were climbing up out of the cave, they didn't have a pleasant expierience, because it felt like something from below was pulling on the rope and trying to climb up. The guy actually took off his harness and started climbing the wall with his hands and feet, and he says he's really lucky he didn't fall. When they finally climbed out, they ran all the way to the tree that they had anchored their ropes to and fell down against it from exhaustion. They both noticed that the other one looked just as freaked out as the guy who had climbed into the tunnel before. All of the sudden, the rope tightened. There was something using it to climb up the cave's wall. His friend grabbed a knife, and cut the rope in four or five seconds. The cut off rope got sucked back into the cave, then they ran into their car and drove away.
The guy ended it by talking about how freaked out he was and how he still hasn't gotten over it. Even if it was fake, he had some serious writing talent. That was a really good adventure/mystery/suspense story, and he put A LOT of detail into it. It's very believable.
It is missing... which makes it more creepy...Ok, that is really creepy.
*spoilers*
And is it me, of is page 11 missing?

Good story, and it does have an ending BTW. Did a little googling and found this. So apparently, the original story, The Fear of Darkness, was written by a guy named Thomas Lera in 1987, and somebody plagiarised a good bit of it to create that website, that is unless Lera created the website himself. Personally, I enjoyed the web version more, especially the ending and the photos. Too bad no credits given, but I guess that would spoil the illusion of reality.luccaface
Interesting story! Glad someone found the original.
My guess so far is a portal to hell, just like a family had in their basement on an episode of "A Haunting". :|X360PS3AMD05
pics or it didn't happen.
yeah i read that a long time ago....it is fake though for you people thinking its real...
He never finished for effect, so peopel would think he died...
Its too bad nobody got any credit for writing that because its really really good.....

yeah, it was a good story but definately fake. it was way too long also. the details and the photos probably come from an actual amateur cave outing but once he goes into the crap in floyds tomb, it becomes fantasy.
I was pretty convinced that it was real lolxtn702IF you believe then it is :D I certainly can believe it really happened..........

Very good story :) to bad the ending sucked, there is none :( I'm beginning to think this isn't real because it's not updated since 2001 :shock:Uber_Hood
there is an ending. You can see it on page 3 of this thread. It gets MORE & MORE unrealistic. I recommend not reading it.
