Well, i think yes, but it would take a lot of time. To change our lungs approprietly to water breathing would take a lot of time.
But yes, the ones which better adapt to the environment would eventually overcome those who could not. That is just logic.
It's not a fact or a law because it can't be proven. There's no way to observe a species over that amount of time.soldier-dark
Thats when we use fossils!
Just llok at archaeopteryx, that clearly shows transition, and we have fossils for all the main stages of the evolution of the modern horse.

Yeah, but there's no real way to prove they evolved from that. It could have been a whole other species all together.Well, i think yes, but it would take a lot of time. To change our lungs approprietly to water breathing would take a lot of time.

Or more likely, just die out...
[QUOTE="Godly_Cure"]I'd not call it fact. I'd call it theory.Mr_Mohawk
Can you please look up the definition of a scientific theory? I've already explained this once on another thread.
Scientific theory is still not considered an ironclad fact. It's the closest science will come to fact. But they stop short of saying it's 100%. It's more probable than not. And his idea has not been scientifically proven anyway. It's his own theory. Unless he's a well know scientist.:|
Evolve to breathe in water? If anything the adaptation would be pushed towards the ability to hold your breath for longer, not towards gill-like structures. TheLordHimself
there are already ppl who have set record for breathing long..... some scientist should start testing on mouse and maybe in the year 3000 we will create a new mouse who has gills
[QUOTE="DeeJayInphinity"]As long as the genetic mutations are there, yes.kirk4ever
hey...is mutation and adaptive evolution the same thing?nearly?
That kind of adaptation wouldn't be possible without genetic mutations. Humans cannot just ask for gills.
But no, they're not the same thing.

well i dont think we will need to Adapt if we use genetic mutation..coz it will give us what we want instantly the most basic is kinda steroids........but adapting requires time and effort...

I'm not too big on genetic technology but I don't think we are able to genetically construct a human with gills yet.
For instant adaptation, you could just buy yourself a diving kit that comes with an oxygen tank and a breathing mask.

ohhh...what i thought you meant was Modifying humans not to contruct a humane fully...

We're not at the point were we are able to put a man in a transformation tank, change his genes so he has gills instead of lungs, and send him to the ocean.
If we do have the technology to modify human DNA, we would have to change it before the human is born.
But you're talking about adapting a human to the ocean, that would take a bunch of genetic mutations over millions of years. Something like that has already happened, actually. Take a look at the evolution of a whale.
