All six Star Wars movies getting 3-D theatrical re-release

First Lucasfilm announces a Star Warsbox set on Blu-ray, and now they're planning to re-release them theatrically in 3-D. But are you willing to sit through the prequels to see Empire in 3D? You may have to.

Lucasfilm has announced that 2012 will see the beginning of the 3-D conversion of the Star Wars films in theaters, in story order. Which means the Phantom Menace will be released first. Whether or not they'll be able to continue screening the 3D converted films after no one shows up to watch the Phantom Menace is another question entirely.

So does a Star Wars 3D re-release fill you all with excitement, or dread?

Not surprised in the least. Lucas looks for ANY excuse to re release these films every few years. I agree though, these weren't filmed for 3D so it's going to look like garbage.

eh, i could never get into star wars, i mean if a movie was on tv and i didn't feel like changing it i would check it out, but i gotta say their smart by doing this, they know the hardcore star wars people are going to go in flocks to see them. Well played George Lucas and has this guy done anything new besides star wars?

So long as they remain at least the quality of 2 and 3, then sure, why not?

TBH, the Death Star trench scene in IV, the asteroid belt chase in V, and the speeder bike scene in VI would all look pretty cool in 3D. However, I really don't have an interest in seeing any of the Star Wars movies in 3D. George Lucas needs to just stop. I like my childhood memories of watching Star Wars in the theaters just the way they are, thanks.

Wow this is one more milking that george lucas is going to do, what an ass. It will look like clash of the titans 3d, which was bad because it was not filmed in three dimensions

Great news. They are bound to show non-3D versions of the movies as well so seeing the original trilogy in theaters again, however butchered by FX, will be great.

For the love of god why? They have so much content to work with from the EU and yet they have to re-release what we've seen over and over again? I'm terribly disappointed in this decision.
