Being calm and having a sense of being in control doesn't mean God's doing anything.

haha yea

"All right I am gonna rob this place"

*walks into store*

"Oooh crap I immediately regret this decision"

*looks for a way out, spots praying lady*

"Oh, Halleluja sister! Please forgive me, and speak well of me at my potential trial! Here, take the gun on good faith!"

*runs away*

Actually, I was referring to the cashier. If you as a cashier remain calm, and if you are confident enough (despite what your employer might tell you) you can easily talk your way out of being robbed. All this suggests to me is that the cashier was being calm, courteous and confident, remaining in control of the situation and talking her way out of it. Or it suggests to me that the robber wasn't as serious as he may have seemed from the start.

I don't see what "God" had to do with any of this. And honestly, there are many employers out there who will fire the cashier for doing anything but comply with the robbers demands.

The thought of going to jail for a long time and not seeing his family, that's pretty much it. He realised the reality of his situation and common sense took over.

When I read this story, picturing a calm clerk was the furthest thing from my mind. Must have been when it mentioned how scare the clerk was. As far as whether the young man was serious or not is another story. Since you were not there, you really do not know and we can only make assumptions at this point.

I read the story and the first thing, as a Christian, that crossed my mind was that I really hope this young man turns his life around. I didn't stop to think about any type of proof of God or anything like that. Why can't we all just be thankful no one was hurt in this and hope this young man really turns life around? To each his own I guess.

Good for them, but I fail to see where exactly does God come into this story.

All it is is a troubled, middle-aged man attempting to rob a convenience store because he couldn't find a job, but in the end he just didn't have the heart to go through with it. It's all perfectly logical, there's no evidence to suggest divine intervention whatsoever.

This reminds me of the time when people were discovering miracles in the wake of 9/11, by finding some guy who didn't die, or so forth, while ignoring the fact that, well, these terrorist attacks kind of happened and God didn't seem to do anything about them.

I mean it's a great story and all, but given the murder rate in the United States, God's track record of miraculously stopping people from committing terrible crimes seems... lacking, if indeed these are acts of God. I don't understand why people are so quick to attribute these things to God while ignoring all of the things that God definitely didn't do that put in serious question whether this actually was an act of God. And I'm not an atheist.

I became a Christian 20 years ago because I understood the teachings of Jesus Christ, just like I understand this world can be a nasty place to live in at times. Either way, looking at the bad things happening in the world does not prove anything. Example: mentioning God's track record when we should look at our own track record in my opinion.

Wouldn't it? Just think about a world where we all loved one another. Wars are fought because the love is not there.

Ok.. all I'm saying is that religious EXTREMES are the root of a LOT of bad things. Jesus, as an example, was a great philosopher IMO, if more people actually followed what he preached, instead of being ignorant extremists (same goes for other religions) that would solve a lot of problems.

Someone, somewhere had to make the decision to go to war. Mind explaining how that has anything to do with my post?

GTbiking4life

you were talking about that if we loved one another, violence would be go down..

Wouldn't it? Just think about a world where we all loved one another. Wars are fought because the love is not there.

That would be fine and dandy if there weren't any extremist in any religions.

Being calm and having a sense of being in control doesn't mean God's doing anything.

Her Praying might have something to do with it? "At one point, Smith reached for the gun again, which scared Montez into praying for her own forgiveness before what she thought was her death, but Smith took out the only bullet in the gun and gave it to her, Montez said. "

I became a Christian 20 years ago because I understood the teachings of Jesus Christ, just like I understand this world can be a nasty place to live in at times. Either way, looking at the bad things happening in the world does not prove anything. Example: mentioning God's track record when we should look at our own track record in my opinion.

I don't think I've explained myself adequately here.

I'm not questioning that Jesus' teachings are ones that we should follow. I am merely questioning whether this was, indeed, an act of God, on the basis that thousands upon thousands of crimes are perpetrated every day whose perpetrators God does not stop. I find it highly illogical to attribute this to God when there are all those other cases where God clearly did nothing, and which seemed quite similar to this.

That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying that other crimes are God's fault, as though we ought to blame God for them. I'm just saying that I see no reason at all to suppose that this particular story reflects a direct intervention of God. I do not believe that that is how God operates, and I believe that people are trying altogether too hard here to find a validation of their faith.

I can't be the only one who thought off John Lennon's "Imagine"...
