Does anyone here think there are?

I was having this discussion with my friends and we couldn't think of any.

However, most of us were against it (mainly the use of waterboarding).

In the second world war it wasn't waterboarding, it was called water torture when it was used against american P.O.Ws in japan.

Propaganda ftl. Torture is never justifiable.

There is nothing else as effective, and I have no problem with it. If you say what you know, or if you have nothing to hide, then you don't have anything to worry about.

Unless you don't have the information they want. then you're in for a world of pain.

If you try to force information out of someone, and the best you can do is "think if he is telling the truth or not", then it's probably the worst thing you can do.

If you want someone to say something, eventually, they'll say it just to get off the hook. Torture is useless for interogation.

Positive reinforcement sounds better to me.

I mean, "Tell me your secrets or I'll slowly pull out your fingernails" doesn't sound as inticing as "Tell me your secrets and I'll let you sleep with this attractive STD-free woman."

I'm not sure if this would be considered torture but I think a forced heroin addiction would be more effective. Once they're hooked they'll tell you whatever the hell you want em to for a fix (or maybe meth would be better? I dunno).

Sometimes its the only way.... torture may not seem like a good thing to do, but if it stopped a terrorist attack, I'd have no complaints.

Or better yet, combine the two! "Tell me your secrets, and I'll let this attractive STD-free woman torture you." Yeah, I'd give in to that.

Lie detector tests have been used extensively, but if they choose not to do that...you're out of luck., and you shouldn't have put yourself in the situation. Don't break the law, and it won't break you.

Polygraphs and brain scans don't mean ****, seriously, they're real easy to manipulate, and almost every time someone comes clean on a test, the peeople who conducted it says "well, these aren't that accurate anyway, just keep torturing them".

I'd condemn it because I support America and our troops, and I'd say kill anyone who would do so, so that it dosn't come to that. But if someone captures an enemy who likely has knowledge, they are going to try very hard to get information, it's just a reality. I'd also like to add that short incidents of torture during American interrogations are not the same thing as torture camps set up by the countries we have historically been fighting against, where they stick P.O.W.'s for the sole purpose of causing them pain. We don't engage in that...if we did, I would certainly be objecting to it.

no, you don't engage in that. that's what "extraordinary rendition" is. you get other people to do that for you.

and guantanamo bay isn't exactly the nicest place to be, I'm sure. wasn't it "mission accomplished" four and a half years ago? shouldn't these people be having trials by now?

See, the only response you have is Guantanamo. Our enemy is torturing to torture, with no objective other than to hurt, they're beheading innocent people...and you're worried about our government depriving terrorists of their rights. There's something wrong with that.

Instead of torture just get the captive drunk, then the truth will reveal itself.
