I can see where you're coming from. Having a gf is definitely a time investment, it's up to you to decide whether it's worth it or not.

Yeah, you're making it out like the girl never pulls her weight, when a lot of them (admittedly not all, but the same applies to guys) will do.

There's so much more than that to relationships; what you're fretting about is perhaps only the first few weeks or months, but you're not looking at the long term.

Oh, the girl pulled her weight too, but it was the whole gentelman thing. I was also too nervous to do anything she wanted; like grab her butt.:|

She told me about an ex that kept trying to kiss her, and she grabbed his genitals, twisted, and prevented the poor bastard from ever having kids. I confirmed this with her cousins.

I'm 16, and dating isn't that big of a deal to me either. Sure it's fun and all, but I just can't stand all the stupid crap that comes with it. I can't stand the drama, having to talk on the phone for hours for no reason, having to always go out and do something and not get some time to myself, I just don't get it. I don't like the idea of trying to be serious with it in Highschool, I just do it for the fun, not for the bull****.

I must admit, the whole gentleman thing is pretty lame, because at the end of the day, you're both trying hard to please each other, but if you both dropped the act, it'd be much easier and less nerve racking.

As for her tales about her ex...she was just trying to make conversation. Just go with the flow, and take note from the moral of the story. ;)

Futility seems to be my middle name when it comes to trying to geting a girl at the moment. :( I've tried, but none seem over interested.

I could have a girlfriend if I wanted to. But Highschool relationships last at most a month. So I figuire why bother waisting my money and time. When it would only last a couple of weeks at most.

. . .who isn't interested in dating at all? At 17 years, I have had one legitimate girlfriend, and I thought "Yeah, this crap isn't for me." Of course, people look at me like I'm attracted to guys or something because of it. I just want to hang out with my friends who are girls, not take them out on meaningless dates where I have to pay for everything and yak nonstop about my whole life until I have nothing left to say and we're sitting there in awkward silence for two hours and then I call her and she calls me at 12:00 AM every day for no reason and I spend more money on movies and food and presents and have it all end over text messaging.:|Silver_Dragon17

finally. someone your age who'se smart. i'm personally tired of seeing all of these pregnant teenagers running around. and that stuff starts from meaningless dates at a young age.

If it happens, it happens. You shouldn't force yourself into love like most people seem to do. Wait for someone to come along who can be your girlfriend and best friend.

Or you might just be schizotypal and genuinely not like being around people.

When you get a little older that will probably change.

When I was younger I viewed dating like a chore. That's what it seemed like. As you said, the dates felt meaningless, and I was more or less dating just because it was the norm, not because I enjoyed it or was even interested in a relationship.

Now that I'm older, I don't see it like that. I see dating as an opportunity for a serious relationship which could potentiallyblossom into marriage, and eventually a family. Not all people are of my mindset, but I'm very interested in having a family. Maybe you'll find yourself in the same position as you grow older as well.

PS: Not that I'mTHATold or anything, but, still, the clock is ticking.

I've got a good friend who is in the exact same situation. He had one middle-school girlfriend who turned out to be a nut, and got soured on the whole experience. He's in his late twenties now, and probably won't ever get a girlfriend, or get married or anything. He's kind of self-involved, so he'd rather just enjoy himself than try to pursue a relationship with someone else, so he's pretty much fine with that. I guess it could work for you, too. Or just give it some time and maybe you'll meet someone who changes your mind.

Well, you are certainly noticing the negative aspects of relationships, and clearly you didn't get much out of your first relationship, or you wouldn't have posted this. As for your question, I think a lot of people in their late teens are not ready for dating, but fail to realize it. They do it because of peer pressure, or because of sexual attraction, but are not prepared to deal with commitment. Now, if you're only in a relationship to have some fun and experiment with relationships, that's just fine. If you're looking for something more serious (and many of them are), it's best to wait until you and your potential partners have matured to the point where you have a better idea of what you want from a relationship, and a willingness to offer commitment.

You don't like the commitment aspect of a relationship. That's clear from what you wrote. But you aren't abnormal, except in the sense that you realize it is better not to throw yourself into awkward relationships when you don't really want them.
