Honestly, it was the first time in a very long time that a movie has amazed me. For this reason alone I think it deserves Best Picture, sure other movies may have had a better way of commenting on society with better acting or whatever, but the fact remains that this movie was amazing, and I'll say that it was mostly due to visuals and presentation, but those were done so much better than almost anything I've seen, the last movie to be as good at it was probably Return of the King. It was one of the few movies that I have been completely immersed in (helps that I saw it on one of the biggest screens in the US).
You can comment all day on how the story was bland, the characters were normal, seen at least a thousand times before, but for the reasons I mentioned, it deserves the academy award for best picture and is also why the movie is making an obscene amount of money.
