Has anybody else seen this awesome movie?
LOL MICKEY MOUSE LAUGH LOL
My humanities teacher says it's actually a very accurate portrayal of Salon life and the personality of Mozart (the guy was a serious pervert :|).

Yep, that is quite an exellent film. I really don't know how historically accurate it is, but it was an entertaining watch.
Yeah I rented it out a while back. It was pretty enjoyable and the dude that played Mozart did a great job. Lots of religious undertones as well.domatron23I've only seen that guy in one other movie. Did he disappear?
I have, and, hold on,

I didn't care for it. As far as the characters go, I've heard it was very inaccurate, especially concerning Salieri. That's one part of the movie that really got me, Salieri just came off as an insane nut. Even as a fictional character I don't much care for him, he's not a particularly engaging villian, I think because he's not very complex in his motivations, and he's definitely not very likable. Still, he's more likable than Mozart was in that film. At the end, I really just hated both of them and wondered why I should care about either. I can applaud the film for its acting, but other than that I didn't like any of it. And that laugh was atrocious.
You are correct about the liberties taken with the movie....Salieri was a real composer though. Not fictional. And the film made me dislike Mozart greatly. It took awhile for me to listen to his compositions again.I have, and, hold on,

Yeah I know, I meant the character in the movie was fictional, like even if I forget about them sensationalizing his story he's still wasn't very compelling to me.

He was the voice of Quasimodo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame which is pretty awesome. Oh and he was Henry Clerval in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. That movie is criminally underrated. It has Robert De Niro as the monster and it's almost (but not quite) as good as the original Boris Karloff version.

Me too; I actually went and learned more about Mozart and his music after seeing this movie. And somebody else too! :)
Is that the film that influences a lot of the metal over in those European and Scandinavian areas. They qoute it a lot in their songs a lot. I believe one of the qoutes was "From now on we are enemies, you and I." I plan on watching it sometime.
Not really a fan of the movie as I found the characters too fictionally polarized which resulted in Mozart being a constant source of irritation and Salieri and constant source of cartoonish scheming to me. Although truth be told I'm not a huge fan of Mozart's works as it is and the movie didn't really help that case any.
I was however amused with the movie playing with the myths surrounding Mozart's Requiem as I believe it's still a mystery as to why he wrote the Requiem and his 40th and 41st symphonies as none of them were commissioned and he never wrote anything for anybody that wasn't commissioned. Although I'm just going off the top of my head as like I said I'm not a huge fan of his so I've never really delved into his history on anything other than a cursory level so I might just be a bit loony on those "facts".

I think it's pretty well known at this point that the Requiem was commissioned by Count Franz van Walsegg through intermediaries under the condition of the anonymity of the piece. He was known for doing this with several composers and then passing the work off as his own. He tried to do this with the requiem.
Mozart was only to receive full payment on completion of the work. SoConstanze attempted to get someone to complete it in secret so that she could collect on the remaining sum (which was considerable).

I always felt that Amadeus was never supposed to be an accurate biopic of Mozart's life, but more to do with the human condition. As for Mozart, many people don't like to see him as the way he was portrayed in the film; some people don't want to have their image of a divine, carefree being, who could compose music in his sleep, tainted - but Mozart was human and he did have faults like everyone else, and he worked constantly hard to achieve what he did. It's a shame some of these people can't see through the childish portrait of Mozart that was seen in Amadeus - that to them, 'insults' the great man - and realise that Amadeus is in fact one of the greatest love letters to Mozart and his music you will ever see. I won't be the first to admit this, but Amadeus has truly made me fall in love with Mozart; it is because of this film that I now have his picture hanging above my desk, a collection of his music that is ever growing, and quite a few books on the man.
Amadeus has so many undertones, that to pass it off as merely a fictional story of Mozart's life does it a disservice in my opinion. Yes, Peter Shaffer wanted to show his love for Mozart and his music, but truth be told, the main theme to this film could have been accomplished without Mozart at all; Mozart was just the quintessential genius that many have put on a divine pedestal, to which this story, mainly about a man against his creator, could weave itself around.
I have the film on Blu-Ray, but I have yet to watch it. :xsammyjenkis898
Do you have the Blu-Ray book, or the regular Blu-Ray? I'm trying to decide which version to get.

Indeed. Amadeus was a historical fantasia, similar to Immortal Beloved and Shakespeare in Love in terms of the rather open intent to tell a very romanticized and intentionally rumored story instead of attempting to be a pure biopic. I think what bothers most people is that one of the advertising memes behind the film was "...Everything you've heard is true". However, I've always taken this as a statement about the music rather than specifically the story of the movie or of Shaffer's play.
I think what lies at the heart of the play and thus the movie is Salieri's mistaken belief that talent like that of Mozart's is something granted to people as a gift from a God rather than something earned from a lifetime of work. Mozart had an aptitude for what he did, much higher than most, but he still had to work to achieve his mastery. Salieri concentrates so much on Mozart's status in his own mythology as God's instrument (heavily implied by the choice to title the film from "Amadeus", meaning "beloved of God") that he misses this completely. The picture we have at the end is of a man who lost most of his battles in life, but whose hard-earned talent lived on despite the best efforts of his detractors. And to contrast against this, we have the picture of another man who has drifted away into an ultimate failure despite having every opportunity practically handed to him, insisting to the bitter end that Mozart's talents and his (Salieri's) failures were nothing more than the result of an ambivalent God prone to jest,
