And it's about time too! That creep needs to be locked away from society for good! :)

"Obscenity" charges? Please. How about arresting him for an actual crime?
Agreed. This is crap and an affront to freedom of speech. So if you had kids.. you would want someone to know how to stalk your kids? It's not only depicting it, it's giving advice on how to molest kids. How is that okay with anyone?Great, now they should go after every author and filmmaker that depicts **** up or illegal stuff.

So much for "freedom of speech"Stanley09You dont get freedom of speech when you write a book on how to harm little kids..

If he was stalking somebody's kids then arrest him for stalking those kids. However he has the right to say and publish whatever he wishes, no matter how revolting I may personally find it.
I could somewhat understand it if they were arresting him on charges of "inciting violence." However, the precedent is not even strong enough in this case because it is not presenting an imminent danger or threat. There is a difference between propagating a dangerous idea and another to rally a lynch mob in the city square.
Of course, this is all irrelevant because this is not why he was charged. The fact that they filed this under "obscenity crime" just shows their tainted motives. they are not motivated out of some need to protect children from sexual abuse. They are motivated by their own petty, infantile feelings. They think that they have a right to lock up anyone who offends them. I do not support such people. This man should be pardoned and the prosecutors should learn the difference between "offensive" and "criminal."
While the book may be disgusting, he didn't do anything illegal. He's protected by the first amendment. As much as I want him to be behind bars, as he likely molested kids, this isn't what it should be for.
[QUOTE="00-Riddick-00"][QUOTE="Stanley09"]So much for "freedom of speech"Stanley09You dont get freedom of speech when you write a book on how to harm little kids.. Its still freedom of speech. Why should the westboro baptist church be able to do what they do? they shouldnt be able to and I dont agree with what they did..

"I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."-Voltaire the government cant just take down things they dont like. That is a direct violation of free speech.

Yes you do
And just like someone pointed out about Nazi Germany everyone who cares about rights in our country has to say something about this.

And just like someone pointed out about Nazi Germany everyone who cares about rights in our country has to say something about this.JaysonguyI care about rights a lot. I fully support the right for law enforcement to step in when people abuse the first amendment.
I don't think anyone here understands why he was arrested.. It's not for publishing the book (even though that should have been stopped..) it's the fact he violated a state law by selling that book to someone in Florida. Florida has laws against things like this, and you can't sell it here. He violated Florida law. That's why he's coming here and visiting our court system for a little bit. :)UCF_Knight
And that is still a flagrant violation of the 1st Amendment. Ironic coming from the state that's the nation's second largest producer of pornography.

Bull. Ether all speech is worth protecting or none of it is worth protecting.
[QUOTE="Virtual_Price"][QUOTE="SkyWard20"] Agreed. This is crap and an affront to freedom of speech.00-Riddick-00Not when it's a how-to book on how to sexually arouse children. Exactly. There are plenty of other "harmful" books out there that teach you how to evade the law. Should we demolish all those? You cant abolish something just because you dont agree with it. That is a violation of freedom, something we need to keep (and gain) in america

Why should the westboro baptist church be able to do what they do? Because they picket within in the parameters set up for them. He broke a Florida law...if there is a compelling governmental interest that is unrelated to the sole purpose of repressing expression then he can get in trouble for it. Freedom of speech doesn't cover everything here people.
this is going to get thrown out of court so fast, its not even funny.
the simple truth is that the law was problably keeping tabs on this guy for so long, and he didnt do anything actually illegal, they finally got fed up and arrested him. Happens all the time.
Not denying this man is sick, but does he need to be arrested?

Not anymore. Not by strict scrutiny. Not denying this man is sick, but does he need to be arrested?mrbojangles25How many books should sell and children molested before anyone holds him accountable?
Freedom of speech doesn't cover everything here people.AvistannThank you brother :P
Ironic coming from the state that's the nation's second largest producer of pornography.worlock77I have to make money somehow. :x
Informing people how to perform illegal activities should itself, be illegal. I like how everyone comes in here waving the first amendment flag and how everyone needs to be protected. Put me in favor of adding exceptions to free speech (even though they're already there..)UCF_KnightBut then we have an extremely controlling government. The gov is getting more like big brother all the time, one small step at a time, and people dont seem to mind, thinking the gov is always right
I wonder how many people here know exactly what is in the obscenity law in Florida to pass judgment so quickly.

It's a local police department seeing something incredibly disturbing, and doing something about it because nobody else will.
