I'm curious because I'd like to know if anyone knows any type of statistics of this country. Wasn't it founded on freedom of religion? Because the Roman powers were "enforcing" Catholic traditions? I know that many presidential elections are based on this subject as well.

Not necessarily so.  Although I'm Catholic, a lot of my college friends were Jewish.

Don't you remember? Papist conspiracy? Tunnel from Notre Dame to the Vatican? Jack Kennedy planned to rename America to Catholicismland?

Don't tell me you missed the memo.

I think it's kind of bad that in order to not piss people off about Christianity, we have taken Christ out of Christmas. Most stores and all now only say Happy X-Mas.

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries." Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli written by Thomas Jefferson under George Washington and ratified under John Adams. June 10, 1797.

Actually all that stuff wasn't added until the Christianity craze in the 1950's.

About 80% of the US is comprised of Christians according to the National census, but it's hard to say how many of those are actually practicing Christians (also what defines a Christian is a problem).  Generally all religions are tollerated in the US legally but it's fairly noticable that Christians have much more pull when it comes to law making and politics.

Um.. not Roman powers.  More like English.  Anyway, i've read multiple sources.  I've read that the US is 90%+ Christian, but i've also read that the US is like 75%+ Christian.

no this country wasnt founded on christian principles

I worded that wrong I think.  People came here for religious freedom(of course, not only Christians), and many started the colonies with laws that were based on Biblical principles.  So in a sense, yes, it was based on Christian principles.

Actually all that stuff wasn't added until the Christianity craze in the 1950's.

Adding that phrase was not because of religious fervor but McCarthyism. We've had stronger 'Christianity crazes' at other times, but mostly been happening since the 1980s.

Its not Christian in that there is no state religion.

However, to deny the Judeo-Christian heritage of the of the US would be very naive. Most of the founding fathers were Christian and were led by their Christian beliefs to rebel against Britain. More than that, a lot of the original colonists came here because their interpretation of Christianity didn't match up with the King of England's interpretation.

This question is always posted. Several of our Holy days/Holidays celebrate the beliefs of the christian religions. Just wait till Christmas and then do the poll. See how many celebrate and how many don't.
