I'm curious because I'd like to know if anyone knows any type of statistics of this country. Wasn't it founded on freedom of religion? Because the Roman powers were "enforcing" Catholic traditions? I know that many presidential elections are based on this subject as well. IIRubenII
Where did you get that idea? It had nothing to do with the Catholics dude.:|

Don't you remember? Papist conspiracy? Tunnel from Notre Dame to the Vatican? Jack Kennedy planned to rename America to Catholicismland?
Don't tell me you missed the memo.Â
America is supposed to be a secular country, but sometimes it doesn't seem that way.ZebethOrZebesSo damn true.

Lights out Guerilla Radio? ^^
(Rage Against the Machine song:))
Â
I guess America is a Christian country, loads of the folks there believe in it.
*starts singing Guerilla Radio*Â
Well it was "founded under God" .. but we have freedom of religion. O_o (or freedom of lack of religion as well) . Thats pretty much all I can tell ya.xhellcatx
Actually all that stuff wasn't added until the Christianity craze in the 1950's.Â
Â
About 80% of the US is comprised of Christians according to the National census, but it's hard to say how many of those are actually practicing Christians (also what defines a Christian is a problem). Generally all religions are tollerated in the US legally but it's fairly noticable that Christians have much more pull when it comes to law making and politics.

no this country wasnt founded on christian principlesÂ
I worded that wrong I think. People came here for religious freedom(of course, not only Christians), and many started the colonies with laws that were based on Biblical principles. So in a sense, yes, it was based on Christian principles.

[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"]We are absolutely a Christian nation and our being founded with religious freedom is if anything related to this.cory4513
no we arent
American culture is dominated by Christian tradition, and also there are just plain a hell of a lot of Christians.[QUOTE="xhellcatx"]Well it was "founded under God" .. but we have freedom of religion. O_o (or freedom of lack of religion as well) . Thats pretty much all I can tell ya.jrhawk42

Adding that phrase was not because of religious fervor but McCarthyism. We've had stronger 'Christianity crazes' at other times, but mostly been happening since the 1980s.Its not Christian in that there is no state religion.
However, to deny the Judeo-Christian heritage of the of the US would be very naive. Most of the founding fathers were Christian and were led by their Christian beliefs to rebel against Britain. More than that, a lot of the original colonists came here because their interpretation of Christianity didn't match up with the King of England's interpretation.
if i'm not mistaken i think the percentage of religious people in the country is around 60%
edit: people who practice religion at leastÂ

Far Far higher then that in the last census.. They rated agnostics/atheists/ and otehr smaller religions in the mold of 15% combined.. The majority of the country is considered christian.
