AS much as people more and more want to take God out of America and our American Gov. and culture...it will never happen because God is ingrained into every part of our state and gov..our money has God in it our natinal anthem our pledge etc..AngelB1ack

It's sad how majority rule has managed to spill into every aspect of our lives. Now if the "majority" of Americans are Christian, your nation is therefore Christian. The United States of America is supposed t obe founded on individualism, and one of the most important components of individualism is state-recognized respect for individual choice. Which means, if someone is not religious, it is not imposed on them. It seems as though many of you people want to impose your religion, not just on your fellow citizens, but on your founding fathers as well: most of whom were deists.

America isn't officially recognized as a religious country. The Constitution of the United States forbids "Establishment Of Religion Of Any Kind". However, it has an enomously large population of Christian people, therefore, some could say that it is Christian affiliated. This is not the truth, although most American leaders were Christian, three or four were not religious at all. There is no enforcement in the American Community to be Christian, therefore it is not a Christian country. For all you, who would argue against this with the words of The Pledge Of Alleigiance, "One nation, under God", please bear in mind that, by law you are not required to do so, if you are made to against your will, it unconstitutional, and against Christian beliefs.

I'm curious because I'd like to know if anyone knows any type of statistics of this country. Wasn't it founded on freedom of religion? Because the Roman powers were "enforcing" Catholic traditions? I know that many presidential elections are based on this subject as well. IIRubenII

Well you won't find a single government figure (that is going anywhere) in America that claims to be anything other than Christian- does that tell you something?

Sad indeed, but you will soon be noticing a pardigm shift in that department.  There is evidence to indicate that the most intelligent and influential sub-40YO people in the world are athiest (or at least agnostic).

No it is not a Christian country why? Because you dont get chained up or burned for not attending church on a Sunday, well not anymore.  In the area whuch I work there are a lot of Hindu practicing people you see Shiva and Brahma everywhere, mostly in 7 elevens, if this was a christian nation those pictures of those dieties would probably not be allowed.

Its not Christian in that there is no state religion.

However, to deny the Judeo-Christian heritage of the of the US would be very naive. Most of the founding fathers were Christian and were led by their Christian beliefs to rebel against Britain. More than that, a lot of the original colonists came here because their interpretation of Christianity didn't match up with the King of England's interpretation.

slateman_basic
Many of the founding fathers were deistic or atheistic. Above all, they were secularists. Mostly they were rebelling because of tyranny. Ever read the Declaration of Independence?:|

There's nothing about God in The Star Spangled Banner. The words "under God" were added to the pledge during the Christian Revival/Red Scare in the 50's, as well as the motto being changed. And above all, the federal government is not supposed to be entangled with religion. That is unconstitutional. For states, they can choose, but the federal government is breaking the law if they support religion.

It sure is.  I just heard on TV that in most Christian European countries the number of Christians who actually goto church are in the single digits.....say 7%.  In the US it's 40%.

I live in the most Catholic state in the Country, we have few athiest thanks to our heavy irish/italain immigration.

Technically under Massachuett's law

"Whoever willfully blasphemes the holy name of God by denying, cursing or contumeliously reproaching God, His creation, government or final judging of the world, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching or exposing to contempt and ridicule, the holy word of God contained in the holy scriptures shall be punished by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year or by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars, and may also be bound to good behavior."

Techically this far prior to the Constitutation so I am unsure of it could be effective

That doesn't make it a Christian country. I would like to point out that out of the US and Western Europe, only the U.S. and France have separation of church and state.
