I love how people complain about it being long. Ever see Once Upon a time in America? 3 hrs and 50 mins(Well, the American theatrical version was under 3 hrs), and it was great. Art should not be restricted. Unless you think Date Movie is the best movie ever.
EDIT: Wow, I checked, only 2 hrs and 38 mins. So what? I watch 3 hour movies all the time. Big deal.
i probably wont watch it (i barely watch movies) but this one is one of those movies that says "i want to rent it if i ever have nothing to do"
i was like wow. i wanna see this movie. btw, is the main charcter "the gangster" famous? i coulda sworn i'd seen him before.
bionicle_lover
The actor is Denzel Washington... you must have seen him before.
It was probably good because Washington was in it. People do tend to overrate his movies. The only movie I've ever liked that he was in was that gang movie...forgot what it was called(no not American Gangster).Ilived

Even the Bee movie is making more money ? It was just ok, I've seen much, much better. Even Ney Jack City was better. This movie was like a kinda of boring version of Scarface.

Risky Business is a 6.6 out of 10 on imdb, that is not a good movie, I will accept toy story 1 and 2, Airplane I will accept, Roger and Me is a documentary so it doesn't count. Well you got 3 out of 5 but did you see how hard that was? You also know how easy it would be for me to bring up 30 movies over 120 minutes that are considered excellent by the majority of people.trickmyster13
you do realize you are being a tool by judging a movie based on its IMDB score right? HeckKeeping mum has a 6.8 on IMDB and its one of the funniest movies I have seen.
[QUOTE="Rekunta"]I walked out at the two and a half hour mark, and I don't even know how close it was to finishing. The trial was just beginning, and it'd not be surprising to find out that they showed the entire trial and then some.
Sorry, 2 1/2 hours is an hour too long. You know it's going to be a long one when the cop just starts to realize who the bad guy is an hour in. Even Das Boot, which is an exceptional movie, pushed it.

oh GTFO. You saying good movies can't be more than 2 hours long?
I'll give you one and its a frigging crime movie
HEAT.
You stfu. Learn to read all of my posts before posting your own.90 minutes = garbage films? Sure buddy, whatever you say. I'm not against movies that are over two hours long (even three, though very few), but the movie itself has to be so well made and so engrossing that time flies by.
Tbh, American Gangster was boring to me. An hour and a half would have been long, but an hour extra was too much.

You attacking me personally is a great indicator that you have knowingly lost the argument, I am not surprised however regarding how you have dealt with previous arguments this seems to be the norm with you. You lost I have proved my point over and over again and have ample evidence to back it up, all you have done is changed the subject over and over again and have yet to back up any of your claims. I am done arguing with you, have fun with your 90 minute garbage.
To film guy- imdb is based on a user rated system, meaning people go on and rate films, and however the majority of people rate them is where they go, you claimed you saw a film that you thought was hilarious, well I know lots of movies that are hilarious but I will knowingly admit that they are terrible movies in terms of plot and such, examples would be any Will Ferrel movie, all of his movies are absoltuly terrible but I enjoy them and they are funny as hell. So if a film is a 6.7 on imdb then the majority of people obviosuly dislike the film and the film obviosuly isn't very good, however a film that gets a 9.1 is obviosuly very well liked by the majority and therefore is a good film.
edit and even better example is the movie kung pow, I for one thought this movie was hilarious but I would be the first to admit it is a terrible movie, just because you think it's funny doesn't mean its a good movie. It obviously isn't a good movie it is a 5.4 on imdb and I think it should be even lower, being funny isn't an excuse for the film to be higher ranked, also it's not like I need any more evidence but FYI kung pow is 80 minutes long.

Wrong. I've conceded that you have provided evidence to support your point, and you have mine (toy story 1,2, Airplane). You've acknowledged that you consider these to be good movies as well, yet you continue to make the claim that any film that is under that length is garbage.
Therefor there are exceptions?

Not to get in the middle of this, but you gave examples of an animated movie and a comedy, neither of which usually have fleshed out plots or characters that evolve. Longer times for dramas, thrillers, and crime movies are necessary because they take the time to explain everything and develop the plot and the characters so that the audience can actually feel some sort of emotion for them and care (and believe) what happens to them.
American Gangster was not too long. Point out a scene that was not necessary. If anything, the movie simply needed another "action" scene or two, to break up the pacing and the endless dialogue.

I agree with you that length benefits movies that are striving to achieve aspects that a shorter running time would not allow. I take issue with 13's initial claim that any movie that is 90 minutes is "Hollywood garbage", which I think is very untrue. Sure, they may not be Oscar material or have the deepest plots out there (however, Toy Story was nominated for 3 Oscars), but that in no way makes them any less enjoyable, much less garbage.
As for a scene that seemed unnecessary, the one in the park with Richie, his wife and son seemed out of place to me and seemed to come out of the blue. There really was no build up and I was a bit left wondering how the relationship came to be.

Who cares what people on a website say, just because some people say a movie sucks doesnt mean it does. And there are plenty of movies on IMDB that are rated 7 and below that I consider better than movies rated higher than 7. here are a few below 7 rated movies that I think are much better than their rating.
Keeping Mum
Point break ( a very underrated action movie)
the doors
velvet goldmine
swing kids
alpha dog
die hard 2
eXistenZ
Snannerz
in the mouth of madness
memoirs of an invisible man ( 5.6 rating, still a good movie)

those are not cult clasics, a cult clasic is something like rock horror show. Those movies are jsut underrated. Why should I keep them as cult clasics? They are really good movies. Watch them and stop using other peoples opinion to judge movies, its kinda shallow.
