Americans are known for being nationalistic, yet the country is heavily divided.

Not really. The nation unites fairly strongly when faced by external threads (e.g. look at 9/11).

People have different ideas for what's best for the country. Doesn't mean they aren't nationalistic.

It's pretty simple. There are a lot of people in the US that think they are entitled to all sorts of things from the government. Many of them don't accept personal responsibility for their actions and the outcome. They think they have the right to do anything, and someone else can pay for it.

Then you have people who actually try to do what's right and realize that life and Obama don't owe them anything.

PLEASE in three to four month there'll be none of this divided talk for 3+ years. Well maybe if the politicians fight over a bill/amendment that makes the news.

Or how about stopping this divided talk now. Conservatives are the only ones pissing and moaning about the popular vote.

You mean like how liberals had a bug up their butt in 2004, 2000, 1988, 1984, 1980 or any time a Republican won? I guess it's only an issue if the other side does it.

I'd say it be contradictory if people known for being nationalistic didn't fight like kids after losing the direction they think the nation needed. However that is also somewhat false. The majority of us, regardless of what side, accept the election results. The ones who haven't are just upset cause they didn't win. Which kind of sums up what our political agenda has been for some time now. All about the win. Even if some win isn't what they want. They just wanna say they win.

Nationalism doesn't preclude the existence of internal political divisions. In any case, I'm pretty sure that the degree of divisiveness that the U.S. has right now is pretty normal from a historical standpoint. I remember looking at a graph of the distance between the political parties over the years, and what's interesting is that the modern day levels are very similar to the levels prior to World War 2. The War caused the political separation to plummet and over the decades it's been slowly recovering to its "natural level". Without significant foreign threats I don't think the U.S. is going to return to Cold War levels of unity in the forseeable future.

Are you saying that americans being good at killing is a good thing?
