Per person. 200L versus 105L a year.

I'm pulling some information here at work and some of the food stats for the US versus Canada are kind of interesting.

IE, the average American eats significantly more canned fruits & vegetables, meat, and eggs. They also drink 30L of whole milk (seriously?) compared to 13L in Canada. Really? Do people actually drink homo milk?

But that can't totally account for weight differences between the countries, since we eat more margarine (twice as much), more butter, yogurt, and ice cream.

Of course, we also eat more fresh fruit & vegetables where the US eats a lot of canned stuff, and someone here drinks a lot of tea and coffee to bring up the per capita average. 70 liters of tea a year? Good lord, someone's sucking it back.

What about you guys? Are you the average, eating your own body weight in assorted meat in a year, or is someone else eating your portion?

Maybe someday we'll figure out a way to refine sewage into something that can be marketed as a carbon neutral green beverage, and hippies will buy it in droves. Of course, it would probably be more effective than ipecac.

How much is it from a machine? I think it's usually $1 or $1.25 for a can and $1.75 for a bottle (however many ounces 591mL is), although I haven't bought pop from a machine in a couple of years. Maybe it's two bucks now.

Yes easy meals are all the rage here (in America), because they are cheaper and easy to prepare, which make them ideal for most stressed and overworked families.

As for myself, I barely eat at all.... So yeah, someone else is eating my portion.

I gotta admit obesity rates here are off the handle, what you see on TV is nothing compared to the reality. I live in a low-income neighborhood, where families don't shop at supermarkets, they shop at dollar stores, because that is the most they can afford. Mac & Cheese, Cheeseburgers, Fried Chicken, etc., unhealthy foods are the cheapest, and the result is that obesity rates among Americans continue to rise....

It's $1.25 for a bottle now. I suppose in larger cities it's been like that for a while, but I really hate the change. For one, as a broke-ass college student who can't pay this month's rent, that extra quarter means a lot to me. Secondly, putting in a $1 bill and getting a Coke seems like such a perfect exchange. But to have to put in a dollar and an extra quarter? Seems so unbalanced.

Wel, pop is typically a 'cool' drink. You drink it when it's hot out.

Canada is farther North than the US so it is cooler there. Hence, they drink less pop.

Or that.

I guess 'soft drinks' would be most correct, although I think that term is a bit silly.

They are both short for soda-pop.

I hardly ever drink pop, and when I do, it doesn't have caffeine. I never drink coffee or alchohol. I eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and not very much meat. I drink 1% milk, and am fairly active...

I'm also Canadian :D

It's actually quite shocking, when you see charts comparing statistics between countries, while Canada usually does fairly well, the U.S. is generally among the 3rd world countries.

The average Canadian drinks 100L of coffee, 70L of beer, 14L of wine, and 7L of hard liquor in a year, so I guess someone else is making up for you. ;)

I can only assume the reason why we drink less pop is because we drink more beer.

As for the tea and coffee thing, my bad. I figure I must drink at least 400L of the stuff a year (damn Starbucks and their 16/20 oz cups!).

Careful we may get in a zed and zee debate. I think its amusing that there are slight prefereces in words b/w canada and the us.
