Lmao
The cat is a hero. Alligators are scared of cats.

Heh, I like the cat.
Title of the video is kinda misleading though, the alligators wern't really posing a threat to anyone.
The kids.Heh, I like the cat.

That is either the dumbest or bravest cat ever.
I do have to ask though, WTF is WRONG with the people there who are just sitting around letting the confrontation happen? That gator could have swallowed that cat whole in a freaking SECOND!!!

I was thinking the same thing.
What do you propose they do? Jump in there and rescue the cat while getting their leg snapped off? :S[QUOTE="Words-of-Sorrow"]The kids. yeah. those immobile kids standing far out of reach. definately the first to die.Heh, I like the cat.

Not to mention they're walking right by alligators, and letting their kids hang around. Seriously, the fact that this didn't go south very quickly honestly surprised me.

Not only that, but gators in general (at least ones that aen't at like the 20 ft mark) are NOT that hard to deal with when on land like that. They are ambush predators, not fighters. A person could have easily beat the thing away with a stick.
People need to know exactly HOW gators can be dangerous. People aren't exacly getting killed/mauled by gators while on land. They are only a real threat (besides once again maybe when they are at like the 20 ft mark and are just absolute behemoths) when in the water where they can ambush you and drag you under. There is a reason why Steve Irwin was constantly able to wrangle gators after all. He wasn't superhuman, just knew exactly what they were and weren't capable of.

Eh, they seemed like they were at a pretty safe distance to me besides the cat.
Like I said in my other post, gators really aren't **** when on land, especially smaller ones like that. Gators do not look for fights which is exactly WHY the gator backed off from the cat. They are actually really big sissies. Gators kill through ambush only. They even helped prove that on Mythbusters when they tred testing a myth that gators couldn't run in zig zags. They ended up not being able to get a gator to chase ANY target in order to test the myth.
Gators are lazy and a bunch of pansies when it comes down to it. If they can't get the jump on you when you are in the water then they just aren't going to bother.

Alligators are still damn fast on land over short distances, and generally when dealing with wild animals that have incredibly powerful jaws and rows of razor sharp teeth it's better to err on the side of caution.

Well yeah, it is always good to be cautious.
With gators though, when on land you are pretty damn safe as long as you are out of immediate range of their jaws and tail. The only reason a gator might even attack on land would be if it felt threatened, so if you put just a few feet between yourself and the gator like those people did everything should be pretty kosher.

The one exception to this is if you get too close to the mother's nest.
Or am I thinking about crocodiles?
People laughing at the alligator but I would like to meet one person who would stand there with a hissing cat staring you down, swiping at you. :P I'd be running. Pretty intimidating creatures.xTheExploitedYeah I know, but an Alligator is pretty much armored + powerful jaws.

would you give your arm (or life, for that matter) for a cat?

You wouldn't be risking anything.
The cat started off at a decent distance away from the gator and someone could have just easily walked up behind the cat and picked it right up.
Gators aren't very capable creatures on land you gotta remember that. They would have been fine picking the cat up the way I am talking about.
Oh and Mr. Geezer, yeah I did forget abot that scenario. They would definitely protect their young. Thing is I think their young are kept right next to the water anyways...
"Cat" is one word. :PAnything with the words "Cat" on youtube is almost guaranteed 1000 hits.

Cats are funny animals, I don't understand why they get all the hate they do.
Well, besides pooping in your house...
