they're working on making salvia illegal, its going state-by-state rather than at the federal level. I think they tried to make it illegal by the federal analogue act, but the psychoactive chemical Salvinorin is really different from other hallucinogens so the law technically doesn't apply. pis3rch
what is salvia.. from the sounds of it it should be illegal.

Salvia is a plant from south/central america that contains hallucinogenic compounds, mainly Salvinorin A and B. The traditional method of using it is rolling up the leaves into a ball known as a quid and keeping that in the mouth for 30 minutes or so. Today, people extract the compound and make batches of leaves more potent so that it is more viable to smoke a tiny amount of the leaves and trip, hard. The trips are short, 5-10 min when smoked and around 30 min when using the quid method. They're really intense though, its basically a total disconnection from reality. Salvia is definitely not for the faint of mind, and if you're just using it to get high you'll probably have one of the most terrifying experiences of your life. I've done it quite a few times, all positive experiences, but that's because i'm EXTREMELY careful.

I also think Salvia being legal is a joke as well. How can that be legal when weed is not?mohfrontline
Salvia is just being used wrong in today's society. Through research, I've found the effects to be more suited towards meditating but kids are doing it just to see their friends act like total idiots which is largely attributed to by the environment they are in when under the effects. I personally have not tried it and I don't know if I ever will. It does seem quite intense. I've tried LSD and for the most part, I was in control, while salvia you seem to lose yourself (as in you are on a completely different time and space).

I don't think it's possible to explain what salvia is like. I could try my best in descriptiveness, but it's such a surreal and unbelievable, yet potentially terrifying, experience.

I think weed should be legal, but there's a big difference between the two. Weed is seen as a social/party drug. Salvia is not. It's not meant to be taken for "fun". Many people try it for that reason, but after they do, most will never want to touch the stuff again.

it's "fun" in the sense that it's a truly unforgettable experience that you won't get any other way. Also, there is a rush of euphoria/wonder and a really strange tingling sensation, like every molecule in your body is made out of tiny bits of jello that are all moving like sand and....i'm just going to stop there before i appear to be completely insane.

yea its a good loophole when your parents ask you if youre doing drugs

"Son...are...are you doing drugs?"
"Yes, Dad, I am...I enjoy drinking beer"
"Oh thats not what I meant. You rascal"

THen they forget about the question cuz you were cute/smart about it, even though you may in fact be doing drugs. See what I did there!?!?

Alcohol is actually a diuretic. Therefore, it's actually counter-productive to drink it to quench thirst :P. Though I'm sure you were just joking.

[QUOTE="Messiahbolical-"]That's not legal at all. What the hell are you talking about? :| Haven't you ever heard of public intoxication laws? Alcohol is legal... to an extent. Not 100% like you said in the thread title. What this guy is doing is definitely not legal. Also there's the age laws and driving laws. So no, it's not 100% legal. Besides, there's a huge difference between being someone who drinks and and someone who's an alcoholic.

I remember getting drunk once - like, really drunk - and decided to walk to the gas station. I got to the gas station (somehow), and when I got there a cop was standing outside. I walk up to the cop just as drunk as ever and asked him if I could bum a cigarette off of him. Ah...good times.

true, but I said "quench thirst" not "hydrate"

a nice beer on a hot day after a long time at work really does quench your thirst. Water is great, I drink about a gallon a day or more, but sometimes you deserve more than just water. So have a beer! :P
