Don't have metal-type screaming and grunging? :P I love the guitar and drums of metal but I HATE the singing. Are there any bands that sound metal-ish minus the metal singing

Some people think Dream Theater's singer sounds like a girl.... I disagree, but he doesn't scream much.

I suggest the entire genre of power metal (kamelot, my favourite band), symphonic metal too (nightwish, delain), what other bands do you like? I like some screaming now but I was exactly like you a year ago.

Umm... Saosin, Blink 182, RED, it's pretty varied and I don't stick to one genre. Basically I want the instruments to sound like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o-p-OAWmsY But the singing to sound something like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ_h7wFCJ44 or like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkXPw_lorew

After Forever, Apocalyptica, Atargatis, Beyon-d-lusion, Entwine, Lacuna Coil, Mägo de Oz, Nightwish, Sentenced, Sinamore, Sonata Arctica, Therion, To/Die/For.

Give me a little while, I'll link each band to a song for you to listen to because I don't have anything else to do. :P

Edit: There, sorry for taking so long, I had a little trouble with my browser. :P

You might like Lost Horizon, their music is hard to find, but their song The Kingdom of My Will is one of my favourites ever, their singer Daniel Heiman is incredibly good.

Here is a youtube video with that song on it

Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil. I'd suggest folk metal, but I'm not sure how well you'd take a liking to it. It tends to have a gruff sound to it. I'm listen to Vakirauta by Korpiklaani right now and remembering that some songs are kinda gruff. Not much screaming or growling but just really gruff sounding. Korpiklaani has at least one song where there is some growling. Kirki and Vakirauta. Korpiklaani - Vakirauta

I think you might like Tool...its more grungy but its really great musically and the singing is pretty different from what I've heard..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07pLGIgyfjw

They are pretty diverse too so this song is not a total representation of their sound just a part of it.

Protest the Hero, Anthrax, Scar Symmetry( half and half melodic singing, but chances are you'll like it), Pantera and possibly Wintersun; they don't death growl so much as they just growl( give them a try, though)

Gothic Metal also works for those who don't like screaming/growling/shrieking, and some Symphonic Metal, not all of it, though.

black_cat19

After Forever is ok. I'll post edits after I listen to each band. :P

Apocalyptica has no vocals?

Beyon-D-Lusion is ok.

Atargatis voice creeps me out and I don't know why. :P

Entwine is awesome!

Lacuna Coil is good minus the growling voice behind the girl's voice.

Mago de Oz was weird.

Was hopeful at the beginning with Nightwish than listened to the voice and was like WTH?

Sentenced is good.

Sinamore was good albeit a bit depressing (as was Sentenced but I liked them a lil more)

Sonata Arctica was ok.

Therion had the same situation as Nightwish.

To/Die/For was ok.

So I guess I liked 3 of them total. :P

What's wrong with Nightwish's vocals? They're beautiful, imo. :P If you don't like Tarja's cIassical soprano styIe, you might like Nightwish's new vocalist.

Power Metal/ Speed Metal is what you're looking for. Iced Earth, Bling Guardian, Dio, Kamelot etc. Iron Maiden is the best metal band of all time, and Bruce Dickinson's voice is heavenly:D

Wait, there's growling in Unspoken by Lacuna Coil??? :?

And how was Mago de Oz weird? I might be able to show you a song by them you like better than El Paseo de los Tristes. :P

The video wouldn't load so I tried a different song by them.

Oh, ok, not all of Lacuna Coil's songs have growling (in fact I'm pretty sure only a few of them do).

So, what about Mägo? Why do you think they're weird?

And what's wrong with Nightwish's vocals? They're beautiful, imo. :P If you don't like Tarja's cIassical soprano styIe, you might like Nightwish's new vocalist.

Same for Therion? What's wrong with cIassical singing? :(

I must admit I'm a bit dissapointed that you only liked 3 of them... Oh well, I did what I could. :P
