[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"] I am going to have to join you for this one, I remember doing an in-depth unit on them in AP Bio class, those things are frickin creepy.

I was told by my pre-school teacher that mushrooms were poisonous when I was 4 years old. The worst part? I ate crap tons of mushrooms at that age.

Did you know that the mushrooms you see sprouting from the ground are actually the reproductive organs of immense subterranean organisms called Mycelium that can span well over 1 square mile?

Yup, the fruiting body of the mushroom contains the spores which will grow new mushrooms if the area is adequete for reproduction. I think there's a mushroom formation in America that covers 2,200 acres of land.

I have a weird thing with nails on fabric. If someone scratches or runs their fingernails on rough fabric, it makes me shudder.

I also have an insane fear of heights. Which is strange, because when I was younger I used to climb the (very high and very steep) local quarry with a few mates, completely unaided by climbing gear. Completely oblivious to what would happen if I made one wrong step. Nowadays I s**t myself on ferris wheels.:(

The orange stuff that lingers on a person's fingers after eating Cheetos. Seeing it makes me squirm, but if the person licks it off or starts sucking his/her fingers, I have to leave the room immediately.

Why centipedes? Is it all the legs? Is is the thought of feeling all those legs as it entwines around your neck?

I looked up my phobia and its called Bataphobia apparently. I would also say i'm slightly agoraphobic and i definitely have a huge huge huge fear of snakes. And does anybody else have a fear of staring up at the sky, especially at night? That may just be me. I feel like i'm going to float up and die in space. So yeah, combine that with a fear of heights, i'm a big coward i think.

Missing an opportunity. It's weird, but I hate it when there's a situation and I'm afraid of acting, and yet there's the potential for something great to come out of it. If that makes any sense.

More so, it means I avoid specific interactions in light of potential negative repercussions, even if they are extremely irrational. It's like having a bad hunch about something and letting that hunch prevent you from acting.

Wow thats interesting. It must be hard to make those judgements. For me, preventing my phobia is relatively easy. I dont see the snakes at the zoo and i dont go to high ground. But your fear must be very hard to prevent. And if i'm confronted with one of my fears it induces a mental, emotional and physical reaction. Would that happen to you if you felt like you were missing an opportunity?

And all those people saying fear of rejected, i kind of thought that was a common fear in people. Like getting cancer or dying and such.

It's hard to describe, but it's sort of like a gripping, paralyzing fear. Like, if you'd want tot do or say something really bad, but you can't almost akin to in the movies when something REALLY bad is going to happen to someone, and they just can't move. They're stuck motionless, leaving the viewer wondering "why?" It's actually really depressing, especially in hindsight because you see all of these times where you could've met new people or tried something, but you were too damned afraid at the time that someone would shoot you down or you'd be hurt :/

Heh, I'm kinda the same way. Whenever I spar with people I'm always afraid I'm going to hit them too hard, or that I'll connect and they'll get really mad at me. It's the same way when I'm socializing. I'm reluctant to go out and about and mingle with people, even though logically, I have nothing to be afraid of.

Hmm.... i guess most of us have societal awkwardness like that and are always afraid of what will happen and what people are thinking of them but i doubt many get paralysing fear like you. Is there an actual name for that. I guess if not you could make it but i dont know greek.

I would assume anthropologically we have evolved to have a fear of snakes. Back when we were hunter gatherer peoples. But yes i detest, absolutely detest snakes and heights. Every night about 30 minutes before i go to sleep i always think a snake is in my room and i sweat like crazy.

Good ol social anxiety disorder......I tend have a fear of being in normal social environments......though alcohol can be of great help in those situations.

Celldrax

This and claustrophobia... also alcohol helps the first but don't try locking your self while drunk in a closet if you are claustrophobic things just get worse.
