This might be a personal question? I don't know?? But I'm trying to find ways to make some extra money all the while trying to do something I actually enjoy.

Been wanting to make some movie reviews and posting them on You Tube.

Now I realize I'm dreaming to think that I could even try to compete with the millions of uploaders out there - but I'm curious if any of you have attempted to try and make money by doing whatever for Youtube?

The way to make money of youtube videos is to gain 1000 subscribers and then apply to be a Youtube partner. My friend said he did it and he got a certain amount of money per 1000 video views or something.

Yes. The number of subs may be 2000 though. I'm not sure if there is a certain requirement, or if you can apply earlier. But if you apply much earlier than that you wouldn't be accepted anyway so who knows.

I'm pretty sure putting ads (the proceeds of which going to a connected adsense account), only requires that your content is either original or fair use.

The deal, I believe, is every 1000 views = $4 . So getting 10k a video = $40.

Which explains how Smosh and Shane Dawson have raked about 4mil since they started.

Tips:

1) Avoid using any copyrighted music (Youtube will not partner you if you have any on your channel)
2) Get a good mic and video camera, anything low qualityish tends to be avoided by people
3) Be yourself, dont try to be somebody else. Make sure to have confidence
4) Dont be a "try too hard" You know those people with "__Official" as their youtube channel name and stuff and who are all overly professional about their content when they have like nobody watching them.
5) Dont let the negative comments and stuff get you down, use them to improve

and good luck, don't let the competition get you down. Actually don't even look at it like competition, just look at it as something you enjoy doing regardless of how many people are watching you. If you are only in it for the money you will fail, you have to be passionate about what you're doing and willing to do it regardless of if you are being paid or not, that is the only way you are going to get anywhere.

I appreciate the words of encouragement. My plan is to use voice only - wondering if you happen to know? I only plan on using snap shots of the films that I'll be reviewing, to keep the Editing simple. Wondering at what point it could be a possible copywrite issue? I couldnt imagine it being so, since every vid I see of Movie reviews end up using so much video footage of the actual movie? Im sure they dont go through the motions of going through all the copywrite laws?
I suppose i can atleast try it and see what happen?

It's closer to half that I think. You need to pull in a lot of views consitantly to make a good amount of money. But I guess you could say any amount of money for doing something you like is good.

Well said, its the only way I know of to even have the possibility to make money doing a movie review? Ive read pleny of ways to try and make money writing reviews, but none of them seem feasable. You Tube sounds like the logical way to go. The trick would be making the review Entertaining as possible.. Not sure how my comedy skills are, but we'll see. I just need the motivation and confidence to do my first one for real.

You can certainly try but Youtube is now becoming another medium within itself now and with that it's fiercely competitive and with the over saturated amount of pointless videos and competing youtubers and amateurs it's hard to get out there and unless you have a brilliant original idea or a good publicity stunt or a potentially viral video, It will take you awhile to gain subscribers and popularity to even make a okay amount. Youtubers can't disclose the fiancial side of the business but you can make a living of it if you have a consistent amount of views and subscribers. Personally you will not get anywhere with your concept I'm sorry but unless you have an amazing persona I doubt you will get many views, You'd need to be more interactive with the audience and humor goes a long way. Copyright issues can occur but I doubt it, you might want to look into Nostalgia Critic and see the technicalities of how he operates if you can research him His not on Youtube but a similar website. I'm surprised how much I just wrote there.
